I was out with my wife this past Saturday night playing cards with another couple. I noticed the guy had a very pleasant fragrance coming from him. Well, being a member of this forum, I am naturally interested in aftershaves, colognes etc. I was very interested in knowing what the scent was, but was kind of embarrassed to ask. I mean it's one thing to notice a nice scent on a woman and ask what it is or comment on it . . but it strikes me as kind of weird to ask a man. They're good friends of ours and my curiosity got the better of me so I asked. He said he couldn't remember or wasn't sure, but his wife piped up with the name. (Women are so much more forthcoming on things like this) So I guess I'm glad I asked, because now I know the name of something new I might try out. But my question is . . has this kind of thing ever happened to you? Being unsure about asking a man about his shaving/grooming practices?

Yeah I've had that a few times. I usually just wince and ask him anyway...it's always worked out and they're usually just flattered.

i just say nothing then break into their houses and check later, its less awkward that way :) but seriously ive asked a few guys, it always feels weird but none of them have ever reacted in any way other than flattered or completely neutral.

Yep. But I force myself. It helps that I try to imagine some guy asking me what my Lilac Vegetal is, and how I would feel if someone asked.

I don't ask. Unless it's a very very close friend.

What if he wasn't wearing anything?

That would be uncomfortable. I would politely ask him to dress himself or I would show myself to the door.

No, I wouldn't have a problem asking about cologne. It's no different from from saying "cool shoes, where did you get them?"
