Hey guys,
I posted this question in the newbie forum, but thought maybe it might do better overe here now.
I was wondering about the zeepK leather stops on ebay that you can pick up for under $10 (under $20 with shipping). They have leather and linen, so I'm wondering if they will do alright for sharpening up my new blade.
Have any of you any experience with the Zeepk strops (not the razors), and do you think it would be worth while to get one? Or is the $40 strop i'm eyeing really that much better?

Saw your post in the newb forum first, here's a copy of my reply there:
Welcome! I've never used one, but they were discussed on SRP a week or so ago and the general consensus was NO. Don't bother with them.
Check thewellshavedgentleman.com. Tony sells a very nice beginner strop for about $23. If you spring for a #1 strop- a bit more expensive, he'll include a free beginner strop for you to learn on, which you can then use for travel, etc. The quality is outstanding. You really can't go wrong with any of his products.
If you start with a real cheapie like the Zeepk, you're going to want a quality strop soon after one way or another- so why take the chance that its a POS? Just my 2 cents.

Great, thanks for the info.
THe beginner strop looks like the price range I want, but do these have a linen side? They look like just leather. How will not having linen affect me?
Also, what is SRP?

They are just leather. Not everyone agrees that using linen is necessary. Tony would not be selling an item he did not think would accomplish the purpose. Ans SRP is www.straightrazorplace.com

Sorry, SRP is www.straightrazorplace.com. Its a forum dedicated to straights. There is a lot of great info and knowledge there. Check it out.
The beginner strops do not come with linen. The usefulness of linen is somewhat a matter of taste. Some use it some don't. I don't think its really a necessity.

Having owned one of the Zeepk strops, I can tell you this: They're utter garbage. Poor quality leather, unsuited to razors, cheap hanging hardware (it's literally a bent nail forming the hanging loop), and the "linen" is cheap vinyl. You know how it has that sort of fabric back? That's the 'linen' side. Save your money, and get one from either Tony or Handamerican (they're great, and a great value, as well).
Just my $.02
