What number do you use? Gillette Adjustable

I was just curious if there were any Gillette Adjustable fans out there like me and what number do you set your razor on. I used to set mine on 7 or 8 and forget it, but recently I had a bad experience. I unfortunately had been using an electric razor for a while, out of convenience while on vacation. When I went back to my favorite DE I scraped my face off.:mad: My fault I know!!:blushing: My face was no longer use to it and I probably was out of practice a bit. None-the-less, I dialed it down to 5 and got a great non irritating shave a couple days later. I think the adjustable feature is great!:001_smile I'd love to hear about your experiences?

Depends on the blade and the day. Feathers and other sharp blades will usually get anywhere from a 3 to a 5. Derbys I'll go higher with but it all depends on how well the razor is working for me and how much beard I have to cut.

Me too, if you take a look at the wiki page a setting of '"7" is quite aggressive. A SS redtip, widely viewed as a reasonably aggressive shaver, has a blade gap equivalent to a fatboy set at 3.

When I shave with my slim adjustable *I did this morning*, with a feather loaded 9 for my first pass, 9 for atg *even on my upper lip* and 9 for my touch up... So basically I leave it at 9 and forget it!

8 on the Fat Boy - I don't presently change settings during the 4 pass shave but may experiment based on some answers here, Curiously, but YMMVish as always with this hobby, it appears that certain folks dial Up and others dial Down for latter passes. My most difficult is Pass 4 ATG on the upper lip, maybe I'll try some variation there ..

When I started I was up in the 8-9 range on my slim with walmart personnas. Then I went down to a 5-6 with my fatboy and derbys. Now I am at a 2-3 with my fatboy and astras. I am still searching for that happy medium that will provide me a weeks worth of great shaves. It is encouraging though as I went from 1 good shave per week to about 4.

I usually use mine on 5. If I am trying a new brand of blade, I'll dial it down to 3/4 until I am comfortable with it (1 or 2 shaves).

I've used it on 7 for cheap blades...keep it lower on 5 for good blades.

I started with it on 1 when I first tried it and worked my way up.

Using Feathers in my Fatboy, I start off at 5 for a WTG pass and leave it like that for XTG. Then I dial it down to 3 for an ATG pass. I'm still tinkering around and I've been thinking about going to a more aggressive number for the WTG pass before dialing down.

I start out 3-4 first pass wtg, follow that with 6-8 ATG, depending on the newness of the blade and which blade. If I want to go XTG, back down to 3-4.

Well actually it is not as scary as you think! :lol: Using the slants regularly, shows that even at 9 is really not all that aggressive. The best part is with the slim on 9 = a bloodless shave and the same with both of my slants. I guess my skin can take the more aggressive razors with feathers!

I ussually start on 8 or 7 WTG then go down to 5 or 4 for XTG passes and 3 for the final ATG.

But to be honest I get much better shaves(comfort/smoothness/end result) from a Super Speed Regular or Red Tip,so that's what I usually use
