View Full Version : The General forum
There continues to be some confusion as to what is appropriate to post in the General forum. Browsing the topics listing there always reveal a bunch of moved threads. I think that the confusion comes from the name of that forum and it should be changed to reflect something more specific about the content there. Perhaps General Shaving would do the trick.
That seems to be a sensible suggestion.
The description for the General forum is as follows:
"Any shaving related talk that doesn't belong in the forums below goes here. Please note: Topics that aren't related to shaving belong in The Barber Shop."
Many of the posts that are erroneously made in the General forum have to do with Colognes, or Razors, or Shaving Brushes, all are topics that have their own forum. When people can plainly see the forums they should be posting in and don't anyway, changing the name of one forum won't fix the issue in my opinion.

Yeah, I think Nick is right. It is right there. Doesn't stop people from, for example, posting WTT ads in general instead of selling/trading.

Yes, the description of the forum is right there, but it looks like people aren't reading it. That's why I think changing the title (which people do read) would make for fewer messages that the moderator needs to move.

Again, my point being, just two forums down on the main forum page is the Shaving Brush forum, three below is Colognes, yet despite those forums being spelled out clear as day, people still make cologne and brush and razor related posts in the General forum. We would have to change the name from "General" to "General - DON'T POST HERE ABOUT COLOGNES OR SHAVING BRUSHES OR RAZORS OR OFF TOPIC POSTS, ETC ETC" Now granted, some times people make mistakes, even some of the B&B veterans and even mods have the occasional goof, that's understandable, but for those who don't pay attention, there's not much we can do.
B&B prides itself in not catering to the lowest common denominator. Even if it takes a little more work on the back end, we believe in setting our standards high and helping people rise to the occasion.

Of course, just because we don't cater to the lowest common denominator.... doesn't mean they don't find their way here anyway. :a9:
