Every man has got to have a place of his own, where he can relax, smoke a good cigar, drink a glass of wine/beer/whisky, read, work, and play with his favourite toys...

This is how my place looks like: my "kingdom" at home...

How does your place look like (if you have one of course.... )?

Just one question Peter - Do you actually wear the hats or are they just for decor ?

They're all my size (57) but i wear them very ocassionally, especially the Panama's. The one on the upper right is a genuine handwoven and handblocked Montecristi roll-up Optimo, the one in the middle is a handmade Cuenca Fedora; the Panama below is a Borsalino Italian Panama. The Fedora's are a felt Borsalino on the left and a felt Stetson on the right.

So they are indeed most of the time for display/decor.

Peter - very nice domain. Wood, leather and manly stuff...that works!

107 brushes? How many razors are in there? It looks like that could be a 3 digit number as well.

Exactly: wood, leather, cigars, gentleman's attributes, that's what the interior of my "kingdom" is made of; the scent/smell of the room is made up of leather and wood.

As for the Str8's: there are only twenty of them, so no big deal. DE's in the cupboard about twentyfive. In my bathroom another twenty....

Mine is too messy to photograph without embarrassment, and will shortly be turned into a child's bedroom so I will have to do without until we buy the next house.

At first glance I thought the number of brushes was a bit excessive. Then I remembered that I have over 3,000 vinyl lps in my house. Nice kingdom drP.

You're my hero, I would die for a place of my own-room that is. I live in a large house and every square foot has kid stuff, I even found toys in my Dopp kit:eek: -I have three under nine and one on the way:confused: . Anyways thanks for the wonderful photos.

I love the smell of wood, and leather makes a good compliment to it. :thumbup1:

The middle shelf of that glass cabinet looks like it's going to burst outta there.

That's a lot of brushes mister....

Nice place though. I don't have anything (and won't for a while I think) since we live in a 1 bedroom appartement. But one day.....ONE DAY!!!

I figure that my kingdom one day will also have a skeleton. But I'll probably keep mine in the closet.

That is just excellent Peter. You have done a very nice job with it - very warm, cozy and inviting. Love the skeleton too.

Well, I'll admit that I can be a little strange from time to time, but I suppose that my "kingdom" is actually the furnace/laundry/storage room. This is where I go to read/relax/think. The room is unfinished and has no furniture (other than an old 14inch TV on a broken microwave stand)... but it is my favourite place to spend "me time". Ever since I was a little kid I've loved to sit on top of the clothes dryer, covered in a blanket, and read... there is just something about being warm while you read that makes it so much better... and the loud white-noise from the dryer and furnace mean that I don't get distracted nearly as often.

We call it my "cave", instead of "kingdom", but it hasn't materialized yet. However, I am in line to get a house with a detatched 3-car garage, and I have grand plans for that. I will divide it into thirds, each with it's own garage door. The first section will be a sports pub/viewing room, with all my Gator stuff, and a big screen TV. That is where my leather and wood will be. There are several barrister bookcases in the house that will look good in there.

The second section will be a Coca-Cola diner, with my old Coke machine, and all of my Coke stuff, outfitted in Coke diner furniture. This room will also have it's own regular entrance door.

The last section will be the actual workshop/tool storage.

I don't worry about where the cars go, because the house has a 2-car garage already.

That is my ultimate dream, and I will have it one day.

My Kingdom? At the moment a smallish 15 foot by 25 foot University room.

It really isn't anything special with breeze block walls, and a cardboard poster-board, but it has a sink, and thus is my home :-)

As we strive to accumulate more and more, I can't help but notice that some of my greatest pleasures have been exerienced in the most austere and unadorned surroundings.
You may be dying to leave your dorm room, but I can assure you that you'll come to miss your dorm life.

My work office was that way for me. Well I don't smoke cigars, but it was in a seperate building from the rest of the company, and I had my own bathroom and entrance/exit.

I had my watches on dispaly, my glass desk, that I still want. My knick knacks, etc. All my reading material in my bathroom!

Now I have left the company and am between jobs, so my stuff is in boxes. We have an "office", which I am in now, but it isn't "mine". My wife has a craft room that is hers, so I may start angling for the office.

Yours is great though. I like the desk and the brushes that could put on cream in one pass.

I third the dorm sentiment. It is nice to have your own space.

I am in the process of rough finishing my furnace/laundry/storage room. It will still be the laundry room but will also serve as my little work shop. I plan on smoking my cigars in there as well. It will be my room to *piddle* around I guess.

Me too, minus the cigars. I've got a little wood shop going on down there. There's not much space, but I've got a table saw, router table, planer, a couple of benches, and a new dust collector.

Wonderful.

The Flusser books on top of the Armoire strike a chord. I have a couple of them as well. I suggest that the following items are related, in that an individual expressing an interest in one will possibly have an interest in another:

1. DE Classic Shaving
2. Classic dressing (custom or high end suits, shirts, ties, etc.)
3. Vintage jewelry (watches, cufflinks, signet rings)
4. Old Books
5. Studies-- library, home office, with some traditional elements as you show. My home office has an old manual typewriter on display (it works, but like most of us I us the PC for just about everything)
6. Single Malt Scotches
7. Good wine

I love your skeleton, though it would be considered quirky today I have a romantic notion that in an earlier era Gentlemen tried to be well balanced, with a knowledge of medicine, geography, history, mathematics, literature, etc.. It would be natural for someone in that era with an inquisitive nature to have maps, globes, and yes, skeletons. My basement has a map of the world, a map of the US, Gray's Anatomy, An OED, Gibbon's Decline and Fall, Chicago Manual of Style, the aforementioned typewriter, office supplies, a variety of artwork. My razors and my clothing are up in my bedroom not in my study. I don't favor hats though I think they look pretty cool on others. I have some vintage watches and cufflinks which somehow seem to go with the vintage razor obsession.

Thanks for sharing the space with us. When is the party? I will bring the macanudos and the Macallan. I promise not to use the skeleton as a ventriloquist dummy.
