inquiring minds want to know  more importantly, is there anyone here that actually owns every Gillette model ever made? or do most of you with large collections have a lot of duplicates and triplicates?
I own 7 vintage Gillettes and 1 Merkur

my count right now is 87, and I'm not sure how to decide how many are duplicates. Do you count two identical razors with different finishes as duplicates? Slightly different handles? Different variations of superspeeds through the years, some minor and some major?

3 Merkurs (1 slant)
1 NEW Improved
1 Old Type
2 Techs

wow, where do you keep them all? by identical razors I mean two models of the same finish/handle/country of origin. for example, perhaps you have two E4 Fatboys in your collection, but then you might have a Gold Tech made in the US versus and English Tech (not a duplicate cuz they're slightly different)

How did I do this? Sold all of my razors except for the 2.
Then shifted my addictions in another direction I was into B.W.S.(before wet shaving)

It would be nearly impossible to own every Gillette model even if every model was known. I have 105 Gillette razors, 20 of which are dups I use in my rotation. I have only one other de, a Merkur 38C I used once and may not use again. I have 10 SE razors which include a Schick, 5 Valets, and 4 Gems. I have never sold a razor but have given a couple away. It would probably take a very special razor for me to buy any more. I don't own a Diplomat, President or Toggle and have no plans to get one in the near future.

97, but in my defense, I just gave away 16 in a huge PIF for my workmates, and a half a dozen before that to various friends / family etc.
A few repeats, and about a 10 GEMs and Schicks.
These are all used as shavers in my rotation except for the Schick Injectors and one cased President.
I have never sold a single razor I have bought.

42. Lots of repeats.
20 or so, some duplicates. Less than one tenth of the number of fountain pens I own.
more than 200, less than 300. A few duplicates, but most are unique variants. Not all Gillette. I am far from having them all, but I am comfortable with my current line up.

I bought my first razor January 2008. I had really bad RAD for a while, it has slowed down a lot since then, but I have fun with it. Take a peek at some of them (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3578/3501085664_f519e61e7e.jpg)

Are you counting the '54 Z3 Superspeed I just bought from you?
Hmm, lessee...
Merkur 1906 Classic (my training razor, and the only DE I've shaved with so far- First BBS shave today, and one blade away from trying out some of the vintages).
'51 Black Tip Superspeed (Aluminum handle)
'30's New, bar handle (stripped bare for the most part now, and very nice looking!)
'53 Superspeed
'65 Slim Adjustable (pristine)
'47 Superspeed
'22 Big Fellow (nearly shave ready)
'59 Tech
Gem (Mocromatic? Still needs to be cleaned up)
Star (?) - gold, still needs to be cleaned
'46-'47 Aristocrat
Early '30's Aristocrat (in the mail)
? Ball handle Tech, a $7.50 shipped eBay bargain and my first duplicate- in the mail
'58 Fat Boy (4th quarter, same as my birth!) in the mail
'54 Flare Tip Superspeed (my first flare tip)- at Amishmotorboat's house, he's mailing it Monday.
All are shave ready unless otherwise noted.
So, to answer your question, that'd be 15. The Merkur was delivered on 9/1/09. The eBay purchases started on 9/2/09. Of course, the day's not over yet... and I'm still hunting :wink2:.

I trust my face to my one and only Merkur Futur. Just add Hydrolast and I'm good!
At the moment. 3. 1 daily, 1 that I keep in case something happens and a travel one.
I currently own 7 straights. 5 are in my rotation, 2 need to be restored and I'm trying to get a few more as SRAD is hitting at the moment. I might change of few of my straights for bigger one, I'm undecided at the moment.

8 Gillettes in the 2 months since I've discovered DE shaving, 1 Merkur on the way, 2 more Gillettes on the way. I expect to rid myself of some of the Gillettes as I discover which work for me and blade combinations.

In effort early on to curb my RAD, I set a criteria....British TTO.
US razors were my early finds. But they don't see light of day these days as they just don't shave as well ( for me ) as the Brits
I've broken it a couple of times but only because the price was right :001_smile
All finds local finds..except one off BST, NO EBAY !!! :tongue_sm
Without the TTO criteria I'd have a plethora of Techs and News, but I've gotta leave something in the shops for someone else :001_smile

I've just got a couple: a '54 SS and a Merkur HD. I'm new, but don't have much of an interest in making a hobby out of collecting these (yet). I might try a couple more, but if things stay this way I'll probably sell off all but one or two when I settle on a favorite razor & blade combo.
Creams and soaps, however, may very well be a different animal.

Gillette New
Champange Gillette Lady
Gillette Slim Adjustable
Krona
Rolls Razor w/ box and all paperwork
All of these razors are antique store / flea market scores and are in excellent shape.
The Rolls was the most expensive at $20.00. The rest were $5.00 or less.
The New is the razor I judge all others by. It's my favorite by far.
Judging by some of the others listed on this post, it's no wonder the razors are getting harder to find....

I have four flare-tip Superspeeds,
One black-tip Superspeed,
One fat-handled Tech,

One Gem (Featherweight),

That makes 9. Wow. I thought I had maybe 5.
And I just sold a Tech last week.

18 or 20 and I can't name them all except for the fact that I have 3 Schick Kronas that are three different colors and each shaves differently! A Merkur, a ton of Gillettes, and a Muhle of some sort.

I've got a total of 44, including 17 open comb Gillettes, 23 safety bar Gillettes, and 4 GEMs. I've bought and sold a couple of Slants, including the Sledgehammer, plus many other Gillettes. The attached picture is old; I've sold some of the razors in it and have picked up some more.
I haven't purchased a razor in months, but still look at the B/S/T forum and on eBay. I'd say my RAD is in remission.
Can anyone spot the really unusual razor in the drawer on the left?

Funny this thread should pop up today. Why just yesterday I counted and I came up with 289 but I think I am missing some.....:blushing:
Ray,
How many do you have in your display case and how many would say out of the 289 are in near mint to excellent condition?
I just counted mine and I have 122 Gillette razors and I would say that 95 to 100 of them are in near mint to excellent condition in a set with case and blade dispenser.
I have 63 Gillette razors in my two display cases.

I answered this on 9-13. The answer was 15 (first was delivered on 9-1, date of my first DE shave).
I now have right around 60 (counting a few still in the mail). 3 are 100 or more years old, a few more 90+. About 1/4 of them are single edge, plus 1 Merkur, the rest vintage Gillettes. If I don't slow down (I am!), I'll never get to try them all!

Interesting. You're buying about 1 razor a day. The next step of course is you'll start buying duplicate razors to replace some that aren't so good looking. Then you'll start replacing those with razors that only have cases. And then only NOS razors. It will never stop until you get bored with the whole thing and start collecting something else like S&P shakers or thimbles. :tongue_sm
Anyway have fun.

Already started the Dupes, and have slightly begun on cased versions too. But I do plan to release a few back into the wild. Got a lot of 8 delivered yesterday. One Ever Ready and 7 GEMs. One I thought ugly in pics has really caught my eye. A GEM G Bar. It's nearly NOS, perfect on the outside. And an even cleaner Feather Weight and a very nice Micromatic... Bought the lot for about $21 delivered. One 1912 is pretty rough, another should clean up well. A vintage GEM case came with the lot too....
I've been through vintage guitars and amps (big dollars there, most are gone now), fountain pens (mostly centered on Parker 51s, and I don't really crave more) and (mostly new) watches. Can't recall a hobby where one can collect such a number of very cool and very old items for so little money. And it's a daily use item! I think vintage razors are generally way under valued. Maybe it's just the RAD talking though...

Ah, but then you miss all the "fun" of taking an ancient ugly corroded piece of garbage, and turning it into a thing of beauty! Not to mention deals like i got on one of my first lots. A nearly pristine '47 Super Speed, a 30's New in ugly shape that now shines bare brass and copper, a gold Micromatic open comb in good stead, an Old Type Frankenrazor with a Star handle, and... a '22 Big Fellow in gold, needed a bit of cleaning, and I had no idea what it was at first- but it's in the collection now. Total cost for this lot? $35.59.

You are right Rick, I do the same thing too. I didn't mean that I only buy razors in mint condition although it sounded like that. I guess I meant buying razors I could turn in to near mint with a little work. I really like cleaning up a razor and matching it up with a good case and blade dispenser and making a set out of it.

This is so much better than collecting vintage guitars, amps, watches, and fountain pens. I'm actually shocked at how low the prices are.
I have just one guitar, a Gibson LP Custom, and don't feel the need for another (thank God!). I'm also a Parker 51 guy, but luckily never got into double jewels or empire caps. And I love watches, but stopped at one Rolex.
But with this hobby I can go WILD for very little money!!! A great razor is only $10-$20, amazing razors at $100.... wow!!! And I could really see myself getting into creams, soaps, AF's, etc.... in a big way!

Tuned and lightened 912:biggrin: Still can't keep up with the 911S though:redface:The "S" would be my first choice as well, but for reliability it is hard to beat the 912 or the "T."
Oh yeah, razors. I have about 10 Kronas (there were several styles) and a few Rockets.
Now blades, OTOH . . .
1940's SS
1957 red tip ss
4 techs (I like the ball-end best)
1972 black handle ss
GEM G-Bar
Schick injector
about 15 straight razors
I'm looking to sell about 90% of this collection... just haven't gotten around to taking/posting pics. My ball-end tech and 1940's SS get the most action by far. I was a dedicated str8 shaver for several years, but have fallen out of favor. I still want to keep a couple around b/c I know I will get back into it at some point... but I don't need 15!

Looking back and for the price, I wish I'd got another Wizamet Junior as they are as light as a feather but seem like good tolerances and quality surprizingly.
Aside from the EJs, I could make do without all of them, though the Wizamet is next in order of priority. Never tried the Fat Boy as I'm really happy with the EJs and intend to sell it to hopefully recoup some money.
