I picked up an Ever Ready today, and the top flips open in front instead of in back. It says patent applied for. Anybody know what this is called? Date?

I think it's generally called a 1914 1924 patent design.
I bought one just like that (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=105258) a couple of weeks ago.

[Edit: The handles are different. Your handle is serrated, where mine is smooth].

its a 1924. i think the name depends on the presentation case. i could be wrong though.

Thanks.
It has some fabric in there that appears to be factory. Red, spanning the length of the case and white spanning from one end to half an inch short on the other. Is this supposed to be there? Is there supposed to be one more, possibly blue?

Mine's lined entirely in red.

+1
most of them were lined with red, with a few exceptions.

Mine looks orange, but it could be faded-out brown.

I have the same Ever-Ready with a filigreed handle, same silver box but with (faded) blue lining:
It's a nice shaver. Enjoy.
