How about a game of "Lyric Tag"? Thought this might be fun. Rules are easy. Complete the lyric, and name the song and original artist. Then it's your turn. You can choose any genre, or era.
One note, as this is definitely not Google-proof, I'm sure you will all be comfortable within the confines of the honor system. After 24 hours, this will be lifted to keep the game moving.
I'll start things off with a relatively easy one:
In the beginning, back in 1955...
We're off!

Pagliacci was written by Leoncavallo. The piece is "Vesti la Giubba" The next lyric is "Ridi, Pagliaccio,
sul tuo amore in franto!
Ridi del duol

Which translates roughly in English as:
Laugh, clown,

Ooooh, sorry, if you read the rules, you need to have the ORIGINAL artist. Barenaked Ladies is a cover of the original. Song title is correct though.

Mississippi River railroad track
Want to go to Memphis get my baby back
Walking down the highway
Thumbing down the road
Got to get there
How I don't know
Uphill, downhill, just around the bend
Got to go to Memphis see my baby again

ok that one was off the beaten path a ways. The title is Mississippi River off the albumn Grasshopper by JJ Cale. A excellant albumn. JJ Cale is a great songwriter who penned suck hits as Cocaine and After Midnight made famous by Eric Clapton, and Call me the breeze recorded by Lynard Skynard.
My next lyrical entry is the following:
She was standing at the load-in when the trucks rolled upShe was sniffing all around like a half-grown female pupShe wasn't hard to talk to, looked like she had nowhere to goSo I gave her a pass so she could get in to see the show.

Something grabs a hold of me tightly
Flow like a harpoon daily and nightly
Will it ever stop yo I don't know
Turn off the lights and I'll glow
To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle
Dance go rush to the speaker that booms
I'm killing your brain like a poisonous mushroom
Deadly when I play a dope melody
Anything less than the best is a felony
Love it or leave it you better gain weight
You better hit bull's eye the kid don't play
If there was a problem yo I'll solve it
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it
