Is there a good, affordable Rose scented cologne?

Are you just interested in colognes, or would you also be interested in aftershaves? I enjoy Saint Charles Shave rose Aftershave splash.

Sue's (SCS) Savory Rose edt is a nice single note rose. Would be hard pressed to beat it for the $.

Sounds like you have two votes for Saint Charles Shave. Can't go wrong with either the EDT or the aftershave splash. The aftershave splash also has menthol in it.

I think I typed this before, but check out the religious aisle in Fiesta. They have a great and cheap product called Colonia de Rosas by Murray & Lanman

Thats a good suggestion. It does not last long though.

This is true. I mostly use it as a kick-around fragrance. My wife likes it quite a bit too and has been known to spinkle a substanial amount in her bathwater

I haven't tried them, but it sounds like, from these posts, that the SCS Rose A/S splash followed by the SCS Savory Rose EdT would be a good, affordable combination. Sue's other frags have good longevity.

There are many rose fragrances for men, but your qualifier "affordable" is too relative. For me that would be around $40.00 and under. For others, it would be $100.00 and under. Anyway, you get the point. Most high quality rose fragrances for men are more expensive than other fragrances. Anyway, I will just give you some suggestions and you can decide whether the fragrance is affordable to you. I hope that you find one that you like.

Le Labo Rose 31
Eau d'Italie Paestum Rose
Washington Tremlett Black Tie
Amouage Lyric Man
Czech & Speake No.88
Domenico Caraceni 1913
Ungaro III - I know that you can pick this one up on ebay for substantially less than $40.00

Of course when its all about me it is;
SCS Savoy Rose Soap for the shave, Savoy Rose A/S for the face, then SCS Savory Rose EdT because its Saturday and I deserve it.

What is meant by single note? I am looking for a pure, strong smell of roses.

BTW, if one were to choose between the their aftershave splash or balm/milk?

I am looking at both. I want to layer scents

I am looking at 2 layering options

1. TOBS Rose Cream, rose AS followed by a rose Cologne
2. TOBS Lavender Cream, lavender AS, followed by a lavender cologne

Aftershave, not an EDT, but very good lasting power: Thayer's Rose Witch Hazel splash.

Would you recommend the aftershave splash or balm from SCS?

"Notes" are the various scent components used in a given fragrance. To check out your wish for a rose scent, go to TPC, search by notes, look under floral, then find rose. Its far more complicated to explain than to actually do it.

What is TPC?

Noteworthy: The Perfumed Court sells samples in a variety of sizes which I think is necessary to really give a scent a couple days testing.

Some sites sell only a 1 ML sample, which is pretty small.

I guess if you're into rose scents, you might as well look at women's perfumes, where rose scents would be more the "norm". I can't see how a 'rose cologne' would differ from a 'rose perfume'.

Rose scents a current interest of mine and there is a difference between women's rose perfume and men's cologne with a rose note. To pull off a designing a male rose frag is walking a fine line, and I fear the best ones are pretty pricey.

Domenico Caraceni 1913, Le Labo Rose 31 are very masculine scents that make use of rose notes. So is Washington Tremlett Black Tie.

C&S No. 88, L'Artisan Voluer de Roses, Pastum Rose are considered unisex, which flips some men out, but they trend male in their sales I'm sure. All are a little dark and earthy.

Not sure what your "affordable" is....

Others here will weigh in with some options I'm sure.

Chanel Egoiste (the original, not Platinum) is also considered to be a bit of a male rose frag. That's the most affordable of those I've listed, and it's a classic.

I recently received the sample pack of SCS Buglarian Rose -- soap, after shave milk and EDT. Great layering scent, and the EDT doesn't strike me as a one-note rose scent, though that is a key component. Terrific stuff.

And best wishes to Sue. Hope you're feeling much better.

Does SCS offer any discounts for B&B members?

I don't think so, but her prices are quite low as it is and quality is top-notch.

There's a fair bit of rose in Penhaligon's Castile, although the opening is dominated by neroli.

Posted in a separate thread but I thought I'd ask here as well: has anybody tried Chypre Rose Cologne Splash?
