I tell you I found a ton of stuff today! More than made up for the lack I've found in many stores I've hit lately, and the sad thing is I've been passing them by for months now!

I don't know what everything is. The Khaki Set is pretty easy as it matches up well with what it says. Blade of boxes have never been opened! Cracks in the handle of this one, plus the other two what I think are Old Types? but still better than one of what I saw somewhere and much much cheaper. I think the cases are wrong for the other two. Perhaps the one with a purple cloth in it is right.

Two round point straight edge razors. The one with the faux wood scales is from The Henkel Co. Fremont, Ohio, USA and is a 5/8. The other is called Electric and man is this a heavy fellow! Think it is close to a 7/8. It is made by Joseph Fenton And Sons in Cutler's Sheffield. Doesn't look to be in as good as condition as the other, but I thought it might be salvagable. Chose it over a few others as I liked the heft.

I got a hone called Barber Junior and a safety blade hone called a Goodrich Hone. Not sure if the safety blade hone will do much, but I've wasted money on dumber things so no biggie. I hope the Barber Junior is in good condition to be used as a hone.

Sorry for the bad picture of the thing clear in the back. Those who smoke pipes will most likely recognize it right away. No desire to smoke, but it works very nicely as a razor holder! Got a nice shoe shine box for cheap with stuff inside that might pan out to be usable.

All in all a very nice stop I had today at that store! If anyone has any comments about some of it they're more than welcome! I'll link to some albums with more pictures as I don't want to flood this thread with pictures.

This little beauty arrived for me yesterday:

And before you ask:

No the image is not Photoshopped; the brush just naturally radiates with pure awesomeness.

...and is occasionally accompanied by the singing of angels.

Can't wait to try it out tonight!

What do you think of it? I like the scent and it's GFT so it shaves fantastically. However, I really bought this one for the Mrs and her legs.

Thanks! It was really hard to decide with all the choices they offer. When I opened the box I was pleasantly surprised and knew I made a good choice. Really nice product as well. Lather is nice and warm now. Love it!!!

I haven't posted in a while in the Acquisitions, though I've come across a few things.

But I found these two things last week and consider them very nice and, for me, unique additions to my collection.

The first is a tin/blade case containing two Kampfe Brothers wedge blades for Star Safety Razors. The image on the back of the tin explains (finally) what that odd handle/piece that comes with hold Star safety razors!

The tin is in really nice shape and the blades look as though they would be usable with honing and stropping. There's a piece of leather inside the top lid and another in the bottom.

http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=18368

Next is something that I've coveted for a long time and have admired this beauty in the collections of others. A complete sterling Bostonian set, with its mailer (the number on the box matches the number on the razor). The mailer is in fair condition. The Bostonian box is in very good condition - some light scuffing on the top is the only problem with it.

The razor appears to be unused, has all of the blades in the blade box, and there are no cracks in the handle.

Now a little story (before the pics): I found this in an antique store that I visit from time to time (a co-op type of setup), and from which I've purchased small things over the years. The owner is a friendly, vivacious woman and we've chatted and come to know each other a little (at least beyond the "just another lookie-loo" stage).

So, I find this razor and take it to the counter. She makes some appreciative comments and says, "That will be four ninety-one."

Me:  "Four hundred ninety-one dollars?"

She: Laughs. "I wish. No, four dollars and ninety-one cents." :w00t:

Me: "That's not right."

She: "The price on the box is $4.47. Plus tax is $4.91."

She had just taken the "original price" handwritten on the box. We went back and forth a bit. She felt that the seller wrote that and that was the right price.

Eventually, I convinced her (yes, convinced) to take $35 for it. She wouldn't take any more than that.

So: you don't need eBay, you do need patience, getting to know the shop owners/dealers can sometimes (not always, but sometimes) lead to some terrific finds!

Thanks, Darjeeling. Originally, I tried to get her to take $100 for it. I thought that was fair. She thought I was nuts.

We talked a little bit about razors, collecting and prices. And she really couldn't believe anyone would pay that much for "an old razor like that even though it is pretty". I still kind of feel like I should have tried harder (times are tough for the dealers now). I'll head back in a couple of weeks and buy something else - to try and balance the karmic scales. :001_smile

I just scored a rare package of the tallow-based Trumpers from C.O. Bigelow in Chicago. Have not been able to locate any other sources of this fantastic soap -- the new formulation is really nothing like this original recipe. Note the simple list of ingredients (photo 2) in this traditional soap. I think it's "Shave Soap Base" that is the tallow.

And to go with this great shaving soap -- a new Coon Cat Bob's custom, a retro-fitted Merkur Progress -- with one of his wooden bottom knobs to replace the plastic original Progress knob and then Bob crafted one of his excellent barrel handles -- hefty, beautifully made and it makes the razor a great display item as well as a wonderful shaver. Thanks to his workmanship and contribution to our community! And a real gentleman.

These came in on Friday. Picked up a beautiful '54 Flare Tip SS from jakespoppy and he threw in the Red Pack Israelis for free. Nothing too unusual, but man did I love the shave it gave me today! Enough to make me put away my Merkur HD, as a matter of fact. I decided I should stick to one while I'm still learning, and in one day the SS stole the job from the HD. I should try the Israelis sometime soon.

Now if I could just solve my evaporating lather problems... oh well, maybe the Provence Sante that's coming this week will work! :w00t:
