View Full Version : Black Slotted-handle Tech
Can anyone fill me in on the background of this razor? I'd never heard of them until I found one this weekend, link here for pic and story behind the find. (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showpost.php?p=1454103&postcount=68)
I've found enough information to understand that Gillette did make the slot-handle Techs, and they painted some of them black. It seems kind of an odd marketing ploy, though. One would think there's some reason behind it.
Much obliged for any info you gents can shed on this, thanks.

I think the black handled Tech's were mostly used by the military. The slot handle just seems like a different design to me.

I don't know anything about the black handled tech, but that was a great find. Hope you did something nice for your wife!

I found this (http://www.shaveworld.org/shaveworld_web/shave_encyclopedia_details.php?id=655&shortname=Gillette%20Tech%2044&page=2&category=Safety&select1=tech&select2=&select3=&select4=&select5=&select6=0) describing this kind of Tech. Military use sounds logical. Harder to see black and it won't reflect, right?

Lots of wartime products (consumer products included) had metal surfaces painted in lieu of plating to save the plating metals for the war effort. My mother had a bicycle bought during the war that had black painted handlebars.

I have that handle but in gold.
The handle is heavy. Must be steel. I like it. It may supplant the fat handle in my rotation.

Here's my set I just recently got.
And AsylumGuido is trading me an NOS pack of Blue Blades from the era for my blade box that doesn't belong in the set...Then it will be complete.
