I was thinking it would be cool to try and make some Diamond Willow scales. I think the natural wood marble is very attractive, and wondered if anyone has any experience with it. It's pretty popular around here for walking sticks and furniture accents. As a kid my brother and I used to cut and sell sticks to tourists.

Of course, each tree is quite unique but this gives you an idea what it looks like, for those who haven't seen any.

Here's a more extreme example, kind of what I'm hoping to use. I really don't know what type of wood is desired for scales other than looks. Diamond Willow is much harder than regular willow, so that may be to my advantage.

That wood is gorgeous. It would make some killer scales.
