It really doesn't get better than that. Also, why is it that a PB&J made for you by someone else tastes so much better than one you make yourself?

A Manhattan (RR, Punt e Mes, Peychauds + a dash of Luxardo... yeah, it might be growing on me a little) and a long pour of WT Rare Breed on the rocks.

Incidentally, I highly recommend not "indulging" whilst watching "Man Vs. Food" on the Travel Channel. It's surprising, the few items in fridge that couldn't with a little imagination and ambition, be pan-fried. :blushing:

Aren't those hornworms weird? Like something from outer space.

Yes, and HUGE! We've killed about 30 so far. I think we've managed to save all 5 plants, but I'm sure the production has been reduced.

Looks great; it has not been a good year for tomatoes on the East Coast. :mad3:

We've done well, but the brandywines are coming in late. Not as many heirlooms, but they're the least flavorful of the 5, so not a huge dissapointment.

Work commitments precluded a wonderful dinner--that will come over the weekend: For tonight it was:

1. a couple of glasses of Lagavulin Distiller's Edition Double Matured in Pedro Ximenez cask wood. A few drops of water brought out the richness of this quintessential Islay single malt.

2. A stravecchio reggiano--nutty, delightful complement to the Lagavulin.

3. the wonderful woman with whom I've shared the past 31 years, waiting upstairs for me.

Care to share a recipe? I've got some cherries steeping in whiskey and some steeping in cognac, but so far I've not been super-impressed with them

Thanks!

Not sure I have a recipe, per se, but here is what I do. Find a good jarred sour cherry. You can find morelo cherries here and there (Trader Joes actually has a good one), and often at specialty stores. Don't use sweet cherries. Drain the cherries of their juice, dump them in a mason jar, and cover with Luxardo Maraschino liquor. Let them soak for about a week, and then add a bit of simple syrup if things are a bit too sour for you.

They'll last indefinitely, and are delicious. Just don't expect them to look anything like jarred maraschinos.

I just tried the 3rd cigar from this bundle (http://www.jrcigars.com/index.cfm?page=cigars&brand=CONSUEGRA) which has been a slight let down.

i bought bundle of Corona's with an EMS wrapper, and if i try them again will pick up Maduro's.

im realizing a fairly surprising truth that with cigars, you get what you pay for.

Just back from 3 weeks vacation in New Zealand and Australia and decided I needed to crank up both my grills. I used Primo to roast some beets (coated them with EVOO and added some pecan) for a salad that was in this month's Fine Cooking and cooked some burgers on the BGE. It really hit the spot.

Good question. It's a good quality bourbon, but not necessarily to my preferred tastes. The alcohol is very pronounced which distracted me for a while. Reminded me of Maker's, which I'm also not a huge fan of because of the overbearing alcohol. Also, a little more medicinal than I prefer, but I may learn to like it, like I did with the Van Winkle Lot B.

the plan was to bake the fish however, my oven started smoking something horrific, set off the smoke alarm, and as an impromptu fix, used veggie chorizo in place of the fish.

Met with Jeremy (jkh) for the first time last night to do some honing and B&B talk. He's a very cool fellow and i had a great time with him!

He brought a couple of nice 24oz beers for us from a local Ptown brewery called Laurelwood. i believe our brews were a seasonal pale ale, which were especially hoppy and fit the bill perfectly yesterday.

Just smoked an Oliva Serie V Double Robusto down to the nub. Fantastic cigar.

Also had a La Aurora 1495 Connecticut Connoisseur a few nights back. That is an amazing cigar with a very unique blend of tobaccos, it has Brazilian, Peruvian, and Nicaraguan fillers and an Ecuadorian wrapper. Very interesting and unique taste, I'm saving the rest to age in the humidor until I can find/afford some more.

I went to the Melting Pot (Atlanta) last night with my girlfriend and another couple. What an overpriced place, but the food was good and a good atmosphere.

I came home and had some Rolling Rock. I'm 24 and for the most part only drink beer. After coming to this forum, I am tempted to try some good scotch. Does anyone have any good recommendations for a lower priced scotch (40) that is good?

Went to nice little local place here in central New Jersey tonight and had a chicken pesto. It was served on a bed of noodles that resembled long, skinny, uncut macaroni. Probably Gramigna, but about ten inches long per noodle. What an odd eating experience. Because the noodles were hollow I couldn't suck them up, I would just suck air instead. I finally had to attack the plate with a knife to tame the pasta.

Managed to get out from work early today and hit the range. Very nice afternoon with my Rock River 1911 .45. Somehow got the following target, nothing before and after it like it, but very nice.

Yes, there are ten shots, and I was using one hand and iron sights.

Topped the day off with a dram of Dalwhinnie Double Matured and a Cuban Cohiba.

Last night's indulgence was all about the beer. I went over to my buddy's house and we did some drinking and bottling...ok, mostly drinking, but we did bottle 2 cases of a Belgian Trippel that was brewed a few months ago. Even in its non-carbonated state it was, in a word, awesome. He also had another brew that he entitled "Lords Heavy." I don't know what style it is, but is was black as oil, came in at 12.5% ABV, was thick, smooth, caramel-y, and utterly delicious. Apparently it had been sitting in a secondary fermenter for almost a year and just lost its rocket fuel finish about a month ago. He wanted a few opinions as to whether it should be primed and bottled or just bottled. Both his brother and I agreed (after tasting) that to carbonate it would be a shame, so straight to bottle it shall go.

A healthy pour of 1919 rum in a Glencairn glass. I am really liking these glasses for high end rums.

The 1919 is delicious - pure, buttery marshmallow and spice. It is funny how taste and scent memories work; I knew that I had tasted something similar before and it was really nagging at me. Then it hit me - there is a tobacconist called De la Concha on 6th avenue in da City. More than 20 years ago I used to smoke one of their pipe tobacco blends called Don Pepe. The scent of it is a dead ringer for the 1919's aroma.
