Hi All & especially Mama Bear,
Just had to let you all know that my order of Mama's shave soap arrived today and I am blown away by the fantastic scents and lather test (on arm lathering). I orderd the following:
1. Smokin' (smells like your favorite suede jacket & should go great with my Donna Karen Fuel cologne ... shame they don't make that anymore)
2. Energy (hard to discribe but kinda an orangey citrusy, very light and pleasant)
3. Dragon's Blood (reminds my of a Russian Monastary I once visited here in the U.S.... ie: a very pleasant and masculine incense/church smell). Mama, you can't discontinue this one!
My only regret is that I can't shave 2x a day (my mail arrived after the daily shave).:frown:
Between my shave cream addiction and now these soaps, I probably won't have to buy anything for about 100 yrs or so. But, variety is the spice of life and I won't let shear volume stand in my way.
PS: all three came in their own plastic screw top jars which will be perfect for travel and for actual use. No shave mug needed.
Best to all,
Rich

Hey Lyrt, which one smells like which? I really like these scents. Very elegant!
Marine notes = Kenzo pour Homme
Citrusy notes = Eau Sauvage
edit:
My soap, which smells like Eau Sauvage, has Matin Ambré written on the box.

Definately a good score.. I have seen folks price this soap so high it even makes me wince.... I am pretty sure it is because it is 'new' even tho it has been around forever....

had a shaver's dream kind of day.

a caswell-massey 1752 almond gift set (preshave oil, cream, asb)
zirh edt
pecksniff's citrus edt
and another C&E sweet almond oil tub
CVS was right next door and I picked up some pinaud clubman and cornhusker's lotion....
and on the other side was this small antiques shop, so i headed over there...
what do I find? none other than a fatboy and an as-yet unidentified british gillette both for only $9.

The top one is a Boker and the bottom one is a Wade & Butcher. These were bought to practice stropping/honing. Unfortunately, while attempting to sterilize the Boker blade in hot water I managed to warp the scales and the blade now touches the scales when closing unless I am really really careful. Oh well, live and learn I suppose. If I manage to get it shave sharp I may look into getting it re-scaled.
The Wade & Butcher has the numbers 288 on the scales. Does anybody have any idea what that means?
19george
12-16-2006, 08:01 PM
Shay, I'm no expert, but the Boker looks to have some serious hone wear. Use it to try and practice your honing, but don't worry about rescaling it. Also DON'T boil your straight razors. Get some Clippercide to spray on to the razors. Thats about all you'll need.
