Do you mean for the heavy wedge style blades or the modern SEs?
*slight* potential for the old wedge blades (or whatever the accepted name is for them). No interest in stropping the moderns. Use 'em then lose 'em, I say.

theyll be for SE blades since theres already things out there for wedge blades.
the device itself im not making, im just modifying it for the stated purpose.

I am interested, depending on the cost of such a device of course.
Stropping as I understand it, isn't all about making the blade last longer, it's also about ensuring a smooth edge throughout the life of the blade. I am all about smooth shaves. :w00t::w00t:

theyll be $5, MAYBE $10. i just want to cover the cost of each item. im not looking to make millions off of it, trust me.

you might like to tell them thought that they need a valet strop to make it work though :)
i wonder if we could get tony miller to make nice strops that fit the valet stroppers :)
PS . i'm on shave 15 from a gem blade :) with that stropper :)

Yeah I don't even fully understand stropping vs. honing, but anything I can do to get closer to the straight experience without buying a straight...:)

Wait, wait, wait. Fifteen shaves? Fifteen quality shaves? Can someone verify this? If there's some truth to this I may be interested. :w00t:

i can verify this lol,
i took a new gem out of the cardboard, and have stropped it 5 times up and down every shave, and i tried shaving with a new one for half my face today and half my face with the stropped one and the stropped one cut just as well and left my face smoother than the unstropped one, and it felt smoother during,
i also sent a message to tony miller to see if he can make a strop that will fit the stropper ,
its a modded valet autostrop that works with a gem with the spine still on and
IT work great,
but apparently the coating on the good gem blades will ruin a strop so you should buy the stainless uncoated or the carbon gem or pal blades,
plus theyre cheaper :)

Dave, I'd be interested in a low cost SE Blade strop.

Stropping(leather strop) is to set/make the razors edge straight and sharp(when a tiny bit dull)before shaving. Honing is when the blade is so dull that it dont shave anylonger, and you have to use a hone(type of material sharpener that makes the razor super sharp again)..sorry shall we continue with this amazing money saving device. im in:w00t:

Dave - is this true of the strop you are talking about making/selling?

if a strop is used with this type of blade to excess, yes.

In this case I probably wouldn't get one, just because I'm pretty happy to use locally available GEM blades. But I think it's a great idea!

What's the mechanism behind the ruination of the strop if you use the coated blades? Does the PTFE come off and kill the draw on the strop?
I've got a flipper-dinger stropper gadget by EverReady that sounds a lot like what you are making, and it seems to take the current Gem blades just fine. Is it really designed for the heavier blades? I've never really used it yet...

I just stumbled upon this thread looking for information on SE razors specifically Valet Auto Strops. Just curious if this is something that materialized because if it did, I would be interested in one as well providing my Valet is intact.

I'd be very interested. I have a Jr. in my rotation plus I use single edge blades in my work as a Musical Instrument Repairman. I bought an old "All Strop" on the Bay. The handle is designed to hold SE and DE blades. I rejuvinated the leather with some Neetsfoot Oil and it works pretty good in the repair shop for trimming key cork, but doesn't get the blades quite shaving sharp. I'd love to be able to get 10 or more comfortable shaves out of 1 blade.

at the moment, if anyone has a valet that DOES NOT have the valet cutout, i cant make a blade stropper out of it for you.
