Sorry for the late start - let's see the goodies for the week!

My RAD has been under control lately (supplanted by SBAD, SCAD, SSAD, and the even more terrifying ADWAD [Affordable Diver Watch Acquisition Disorder]) but I do watch for those sweeties I don't have -- and want. So, over the last couple of weeks:

http://i491.photobucket.com/albums/rr274/bythbook/0802acq1.jpg?t=1249421283
TV Rocket (thanks, Erwin!)

http://i491.photobucket.com/albums/rr274/bythbook/0802acq2.jpg?t=1249421389
aluminum handle Rocket HD (thanks, Achim!)

http://i491.photobucket.com/albums/rr274/bythbook/0802acq3.jpg?t=1249421694

http://i491.photobucket.com/albums/rr274/bythbook/0802acq5.jpg?t=1249421589
1930's Aristocrat (thanks, dBay!)

- this last was one of my Grails - 95+% plating intact... and mechanically fine!!!! What a nice shave...!

and my apologies for the pics - they don't do the hardware justice. (I could blame my little point-'n'-shoot... but really, I have no idea what I'm doing trying to take close shots w/ the thing....)

yeah... I posted to both (I don't acquire so much of note, anymore...).

What's proper practice? To wait for the "official" sticky-d thread? or to post in an unofficial thread? both? or to start a thread (which apparently will forever remain un-sticky-d)?

Top to bottom:

No Date WWII Tech- Paid $4 - it has been 'hacked', if you will, with paper towels to keep it usable. My guess is it cracked and came apart and the user did this quick fix. Hopefully, not while under fire. The coloring on the paper towel makes me think it was used semi-recently.

1954 (Z1) Black-Handled SuperSpeed - Paid $2 - Fair Condition after a cleanup, small crack starting on the upper shaft.

1962 (H1) Slim Adjustable - Paid $8 - My first adjustable, functions great and is quite clean. Big ding on the lower tray for the doors, one door doesn't open all the way w/o a gentle push.

Now get out there and score!

I believe you'll find that your Tech not a WWII Tech but actually an Old Type. Someone else can probably help with this identification.

[Edit: If you look around this page (http://mr-razor.com/Rasierer/Old%20Type/Old%20Type.htm) you'll see that if it were from any war it would be WWI.]

I wondered about that. I assumed since there was no date that it would be a WWII, but the comb and the old-style 3-piece/3-hole thing made me wonder.

Perhaps its just a conglomeration of parts. Which is really the only reason I grabbed it. I am considering making/replacing the metal tube and using a hydraulic press to 'rebuild' the razor.

Still enjoying my vacation on the island of Bornholm. This afternoon we visited a couple of my GF's friends. Having just taken over an old farm they have piles of old stuff laying all over, upon mentioning that I was a collector of vintage shaving gear the dug out these two for me:

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e259/Jakobeep/Vintage/Score060809.jpg

A Danish made Raavad (a very old Danish cutlery brand, still in existence). It look a lot like an Old-Type, but the head is diffrent. It looks like most of the silver plating is intact.

A bakelite Merkur with metal top plate in bakelite box, both in nice condition. I have been wanting one of these for a very long time I

I will clean these up when we get home. I am very much looking forward to giving the Merkur a spin.

Regards.

I got the book directly from Phillip Krumholz. I just emailed him (just google his name)and he replied with ordering instructions. We actually traded a few emails and he is quite nice. He even included a free vintage blade that you can see on the lower right of the pic.

I got the BB brush by way of becoming a contributor of this fine site. BB have reserved a few for contributors -- so sign up now!

Ordered it Monday night (well, early Tuesday morning) and it arrived today. Jagger Chrome travel brush, TOBS Rose tub, Trumpers (my first Trumpers) Limes in a travel tube, and some razor blades (most notably my first IP and Feather).

Hey,

I'm just getting started on here, so I don't have a lot to report, but here it is:

http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=18117

Inlcudes a Lord DE Razor, a Merkur 23C (I think), a generic boar bristle brush, a Colonel Conk shaving scuttle (still working out how to use it), AoS Unscented Shave soap,Merkur Platinum Blades, Navarro Pharmacy blades (South Fla people will know what I'm talking about).

There's also a handmade ceramic shave mug from Etsy.com user sheilasthings, and the included handmade soap. And the Art of Shaving 3-piece unscented travel kit (shaving cream, pre-shave oil, and aftershave balm).

I think that's a relatively comprehensive inventory.

I'm pretty much going to try to limit my purchases to replacing supplies as I run out (aside from trying out a few new soaps, if I can). But I'm eager to try out stuff like T+H, Trumpers, Tabac, MWF, D.R. Harris, etc.

I can't compete with Ray, but this is my most recent ebay score (Merkur Barber Pole, Parker 91r, Parker 90r butterfly.)

I have a kind of love/hate thing with Parkers...they've given me some of my closest shaves, but they're also the only brand I've ever cut myself with.

We'll see what works. I'm always buying and reselling, trying to find that perfect setup.

Shaves have been GREAT with the Personna blades! Haven't tried it with a Derby though.

Used it again this morning!!

Brit. alu handle Gillette Tech and a really cool Ginge (old Danish brand) blade bank. More pics. in my Wiki (http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/User:JEEP) under collectibles.

Both were given to me by the same friend that gave me the Swedish bayonet featured in my SOTD the other day.

I believe the phrase is, "if it's free, it's for me".

My in-laws moved this past weekend, and my father-in-law was about to throw out this full bottle:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3536/3815619925_ea26a1d9c0_b.jpg

To put it in perspective, a picture with a couple of other Heljestrands:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2550/3816432710_8cfe7c9f7f_b.jpg

From the bottom up:

1. C.V. Heljestrand Mk 31, Tortoise Shell scales
2. C.V. Heljestrand Mk 32, Ivory scales
3. C.V. Heljestrand Mk 33, plastic scales ()

While I don't normally rescale vintage razors, a Heljestrand in plastic scales is like a woman with one eye. I am thinking Hippo Ivory, if I can find someone to do it...

Well just the Mk 33 (and a Marsh & Sheppard, a Kaiser Ellison, a couple of hones, and a Chubby 2. This week.). The 32 and 31 I have had for a while. Regardless, the ADs are raging like a teenager's hormones. Still, I am well under 100 straights total. I think.

My mom just gave me a Gillette Safety Razor, Red Tip C-1 (1957, I think) which belonged to my grandfather. It's been sitting in the bathroom closet since 1984, covered with dust and baby powder. There was a blade in it and the smallest rust spots of the blade contacting the razor.

I also scored a red tip off of e-bay for $8, a D-1. My plan was to clean it up as a trial run to not mess up grandfathers C-1.

When I get home, I'll post pictures before and after cleanup.

The red tips are excellent shavers. I like the extra heft over the flare tip super speeds. One issue is that you should not be too afraid to use the razor that your grandfather used. If it has any history of use, and if you take good care of it (don't store it long term with a blade, rinse and dry for longer term storage, just wipe clean with daily use) it will stay in good condition even with periodic use. Gillette made these razors with a high level of quality. Just don't bang the TTO knob around to lose any more red tip paint.

I use the slim adjustable that my father handed down to me and although I treat it with loving care, it is still in my rotation! With only daughters in my family, I will have to pass it on to my grandsons!!

Found this Old Type US. Military Set and this Aristocrat at a couple local antique stores today. Both are in sweet shape and I got em cheap. So nice that I don't want to shave with em.

The military set doesn't say so on the top insert, but I can see where the mirror would be and where the tacks were once in the case. The outside of the case is definitely military. Were these available any other way?

These are definitely the best finds I have made to date.
