View Full Version : German Nivea = Speick?

Last week I picked up a tube of German Nivea shaving dream. I used some this morning for the first time and noticed that it has the identical beige color as Speick cream in a tube. I didn't have time for a careful side-by-side comparison, but there two creams sure do look and smell very similar. Does anyone know if they are actually the same cream?
I don't think such an arrangement would be precedent setting: I believe that I read here how the Omega cream is actually Proraso green.

Over here in Europe Nivea cream is white and has the typical marine-ish Nivea for Men scent. Speick OTOH is almost red in colour and has the ...well, Speick scent. I doubt this would be the same cream even in the US since Speick and Nivea have been competitors since the 1920's, especially on the German market where they both originated. A well-known and classic brand like Speick cannot afford to just repackage the Nivea stuff and make it more expensive. Performance isn't the same either: I think Speick is much better than Nivea.

Frederick,
Have you ever tried the German Wilkinson Sword cream? I got a tube in my package from Germany, and it seems to be at least the equal of Speick if not a touch better. I would be interested in your take on this, as I had not heard much of anything about Wilkinson on this forum. When I asked my friend in Zolling to send me some creams, I gave him a list of a few I definitely wanted, and asked him to just pick out a few others that he saw in the stores. The two that he picked out, Wilkinson and Rilanja, seem to me to be really, really good.
I don't want to hijack this thread, so I'll shut up now.
Thanks.

Well, no I haven't tried Wilkinson cream. All I can find over here is WS in a can or the shoe polish-like soap in the black or blue bowls.
I'll get some when I'm in Germany. Thanks for the tip.

Same experience here. I had the German Nivea, it was white. Speick is, also, as Frederik described. Scent also very different, as mentioned.

ooohhhhh, let me chime in here! I had Speick cream, and I also had Nivea, and I found the 2 of them quite different. First of all, the the scent of Speick's much nicer, it's sort of between Old Spice, and Noxzema lather cream, and the Nivea cream has a very plain, bland, almost medicinal kind of scent. I find the skincare of Speick is better than Nivea, although the latter's is also quite good. The Speick cream lathers very rich and frothy, and a small amount is required, whereas, I found I had to use quite a bit of Nivea to get the desired lather. I'd definitely select Speick any time over Nivea. I wrote a review on Speick a little while ago, I invite you guys to check it out.

It just dawned on me. Speick (to me) smells of pine and cedar. Very nice!

Lavender? Wow, I'll have to see if I can detect that...my "nose" still has the training wheels on  .
I got mine through Amazon via Smallflower since I had a gift certificate to Amazon, however in the future I'm going straight to the source.
Moses, I guarantee you will NOT be disappointed:thumbup: .

Thanks. Pasteur does not. They are pretty good for English stuff. And some newfangled American stuff (Anthony Logistics, etc.). But for random Euro stuff, not so much, except for a couple of lines of higher end French.

Oh my. That is a dangerous dangerous place to point your browser....
So, what else should I buy while there.... There is so much I'm not familiar with, or have only sort of heard of.
Thinking of:
Pre de Provence shave soap. Provence Sante Green Tea cream (I have tried this one - hard as anything to lather, but an excellent brushless cream, with a great soothing aroma), Provence Sante after shave splash, Musgo after shave splash, Woods of Windsor aftershave, Lightfoot pine soap, Woods of Windsor shave soap.
No, not all of that... But which, that is the question....

Ok, I'll skip the Lightfoot. That helps. Woods of Windsor - I love the cologne. Don't know what the aftershave would be like (I like my splashes to have at least some conditioning ingredients). Or the soaps. I would love it, if the shave is good.
Iffy on the Nivea. And, btw, why in heavens name is the Sensitive Aftershave $20?!?!?!? I buy that from the drug store for $6-8. Looks/is called exactly the same thing.
Not a fan of menthol.
Do the Speick aftershaves and EDC have the same scent (pine/cedary) as the shaving cream?

The nivea lather cream is good.
The nivea ASB is not the same thing that you get at walgreens or cvs. the stuff they sell is a different forumulary and is imported directly from Germany.
As for the Speick (scentwise): yes to the EDC, no to the AS splash. The EDC is a more potent version of the cream, and the AS splash...... I'm just not crazy about the scent I feel its different but as far as an AB/AS the effectiveness of it is of the topmost. Excellent skincare.

where are my manners? I seem to have forgotten to recommend the Speick body bar. Same great scent as the cream and EDC. IF you like shave sticks, the speick shave stick is also superb
