Description:

To be short, this stuff is great: smells good, is very effective and quite cheap. The scent is a true classic: very clean and fresh, same as the soap, slightly more leatherish and less floral than the cologne, definitely a lot less floral than the EDT (which I don't like). Downside is that the aroma is so powerful that IMO you can't really use it with other heavily scented soaps or creams.
Tabac splash also takes care of your skin a lot more than other alcohol based aftershaves: burn is mild or sometimes absent and it does have some moisturising properties, although during winter one could add a balm (Tabac a/s balm). And then the packaging... a tall white ceramic and brown bakelite amphora: very classy and manly. If Mäurer and Wirtz ever stop making this one, wetshaving just won't be the the same anymore. Find and hoard at all costs.

I agree with Stauff - this is great stuff at the price and is just as cheap at some online stores as it is in Europe.
The smell is along the same vein as Old Spice and Proraso - traditional drugstore (but high quality).
The aroma is quite strong and I find that it lasts at least an hour or so - which means you need to be careful about any other scents you use.
The Tabac is also one of the most gentle alcohol based splashes I have used and leaves the face feeling tight (in a good way) and slightly dry.
The packaging is great - one of the best splash bottles I've used and I will likely keep it after its empty for decants of other products.
Anyone who likes traditional scents shou try some of this stuff.

I got a small (50ml) bottle of this in Boots the other day, as my wife is getting bored with my sandalwood addiction (sob!).
Anyway, tried it out, these were my impressions- it works as alcohol always does, that is, very well. Seals the face, refreshes, and has a pleasant tingle that really wakes me up. No "cooling sensation" here at all, quite warm if anything, but I'm not one for anaesthetising my face with menthol, so it suits me. Moisturising is minimal- proylene glycol as a humectant and castor oil, but these don't seem to work for me. Maybe they just don't use enough. Anyway, my skin was left feeling very dry, so I've added some glycerine (simple solution, this is what works for me).
The problem is the scent. To me it smells like businessmen from the 80's, much worse than the "old mannish" style of scents I enjoy. God knows where I get this impression from, I was a wee kiddy in the 80's... Anyway, worst of all, my wife really likes it! Says it smells "clean" and "manly". I suppose I'll just have to try it a few more times, and see if I get used to it.

I really have to disagree with the reviews posted here, this product itself is good, the smell, oh my god! It would be kid to say it is way too strong and very, very cheap smelling, Like very early 80's cheapo pharmacy colognes...Put it this way, I would not recommend this aftershave to my worst enemy, it feels more like a super concentrated eau de toillete, where 2 finger dabs on each side of the neck are way more then plenty......its an extremely outdated smell, I would never wear it in the office, I think the riddicule would hit the roof! :(. Pricing was great, I bought the 50ml bottle with Tabac shower gel for like $7.50 Canadian, for both (gift set) I really can not stomach the fragrance at all, feels very nausiating..........and for what I paid, I will be optimistic and retry it again.......from what I see this bottle will be hitting the grabage. The shower gel is Good and not too strong.......Pretty high in the musk fragrance dept. I will be posting a review with Shaving soap shortly.

Wow...I used to use this when I was in college. I saw it on Overstock.com for a bargain, and ordered some, along with two old standbys - English Leather and Royall Lime. Man, this is fun. Tabac still smells wonderful, works as well as any aftershave, and can be bought online for a song. I got the 4 oz. bottle, which
is huge. Really nice fragrance, to me. I'm thrilled to get this again.

Just a follow up here, I was puzzled with all the positive reviews, to the point where I went into another retailer and tried this product, and it was great, I bought right away, and I returned the first batch, I believe the first batch, both bottles were outdated and this is why they were by far any good..recommended highly!

This was the very first aftershave i used. didn`t use it for years now. How did that come ? Because the chicks always said that i smell like an old man!
Now i am married. LOL And an old man.
I love what it does to the skin. Very little redness. Very little irritation. No razor bumps. And leaves the skin very smooth.
Sometimes when i apply this aftershave i feel asif going thru the roof. Because it stings like hell. But that only means that i shave too agressive.
But almost no razorburn. Weird.
Will keep this in my rotation probably for long time!

I skp those ratings. My words only.
First the bottle, it is same color design as Tabac soap. White on reddish brown top cork. Mine was only 50 ml one bought locally here. 9 euro, so average price, not but not too expensive either. It is glass one, same material as the bowl. Feels classy. And sturdy.
When opened, I notice it cannot be poured on like some cheaper aftershaves. Needs to shake on your palm. So not danger to replenish the stuff too fast.
The scent is really lovely. It has as some already posted floral and also some leathery scents. The package told alcohol first, so this has it more than aqua (=water).
I like applying it to my face after the shave. It might sting a bit, but not much, the right amount. Mostly it is the scent, but also it leaves the face quite well taken care of after a few shave irritations. It is not perhaps my best aftershave splash in relieving and moisturizing the skin. The Berner old Barracuda is a bit better I think.
It those classy moments when you had have a good shave and want to apply this golden aftershave. I will use this a lot, perhaps most time.
In contrast, I used old cheap Mennen Skin Bracer and got tired of it soon. Tabac splash is a keeper for me instead. The scent does not last very long though. Nor does it need to.

I got this along with the soap about three months ago and have been using it constantly this summer since I find that balms are appropriate in the winter for me.
I love the fact that the design of the bottle prevents one from spilling the contents. It performs just as the way it should, whenever I do feel the burn its an indication that I was too aggressive. As far as the smell goes, its a classic for sure, can be a bit strong initially.
Surprisingly my skin doesn't get dry after using so I would give some bonus points right there. Overall I think an excellent product for the price ($14).

Tabac is a very nice, warm, spicy and truly masculine aftershave that reminds us of the past, yet being so different to anything available today makes it unique and actually very modern. The scent is very discrete and never overwhelming.
This aftershave does wonders to your skin. It is quite moisturizing and cools very well. The price here in Sweden is 20 Euro for 100 ml (3,4 Oz). I think it is very competitive price that can easily be justified by this product's unique quality.

I've been using Tabac AS for a few months now, and it has become one of my very favorite aftershaves. The scent is masculine and fresh, not the same scent as the soap but firmly in the same scent family. And what a scent it is. I don't know how to describe it except that it is unbelievably pleasant.
As others mentioned, the stopper design allows you to shake out exactly how much you need, but never spill out too much. The whole bottle is nicely designed. I find that it does a great job toning up my face after shaving. It has no menthol and no real cooling sensation, but it doesn't need it at all.
I gave lower marks in price, because in the U.S. it is expensive, but keep in mind that if you like it you will gladly pay for it. I bought the 10 oz. bottle and I'm very glad to have that much, and will gladly pay the price again and again. I will never let this stuff run out, and if I find out they're changing the formula or going out of business I will spend vast amounts of money to assure my stockpile is well filled.
Fantastic stuff!

This has rapidly become one of my favourite aftershaves. It is very kind to my skin, as good as speick in my opinion, but with a better scent. It smells kinda odd in the bottle but once on the skin it settles into a strong, smooth masculine scent. Really great product.

A realy nice old school AS. I guess I've used at least a 6-pack of 100 ml bottles by now and my second choice AS (after Old Spice in glass bottles).
Don't try this if you don't want to stand (smell) out; you might not smell it anymore after an hour or so but it really is a longstayer.
When I wash my face the next day or when I get back in my car after a day's work the fragrance is still there.
Best dispencer bottle ever; you really have this one in control.
I don't like this every day (like their shaving soap) but it is really good and there will always be a bottle nearby for me.

I splash it on liberally after a Tabac shave ... why would I use anything else with Tabac?
It burns a little, but not enough to be a problem. I leave my face wet after a cold-water splash, so that helps dilute it. Then I rub some around the back of my neck, as I do with all ASLs.
I let it air-dry before I put on an unscented ASB. It makes my skin look and feel great, and it carries that Tabac scent forward for several hours after I shave.
What more can one ask from an ASL?

The Tabac, for what it is, is a very basic performance aftershave that accomplishes what it's supposed to and little more beyond that.
The scent, however, is very nice. It's a much earthier, more masculine scent than the EDC or EDT, and lasts about as long. It's one of those scents that you'll either love or hate, and I personally love it.
