I'll say right off that I am not a Bay Rum fan. I really wanted to like this Bay Rum as I have had a very bleary exposure to most Bay Rums and came away feeling as if they all smelled of a Christmas Party Punch Bowl upended in the bathroom. The closest I have come to liking a Bay Rum was Ogallala, but its Witch Hazel base just didn't do it for an alcohol burn lover like myself.I tried the Captains Choice Bay Rum and was VERY pleasantly surprised.First - No cloying and oppressing clove smell!A very mild scent with a good staying power. Hint of Vanilla and a true East Indian Bay Rum smell that others try to emulate with the cloves. There was the refreshing alcohol bite that I enjoy so much, and which just makes me feel like the shave is done.My face felt very good after application, and there was no "oily" feeling which I sometimes get from the Ogallala.I think I have found my new favorite Bay Rum, and this will definitely be a part of my rotation. Whereas Bay Rum was previously stored in the closet and only used around Christmas time, I have discovered a Bay Rum which is refined enough to use year round.

For the past several months I have been on a dream ride with Captain’s Choice Bay Rum. With a clear deep amber color and a fresh distinctive aroma' one whiff when I first opened the vintage style bottle and I knew this was something I would enjoy. Captain’s Choice does have pure grain alcohol as it’s first ingredient, and we all know that alcohol’s one flaw is that it tends to dry your skin leaving your face drained and thirsting for a moisturizer. The Captain has skillfully addressed that with the addition of essential oils, Witch Hazel, and Glycerin helping create a crisp feeling that is not too harsh. I can feel my skin tightening as I let the splash do its work, and the oils and glycerin help to keep my face nourished. If you are not a fan of alcohol let the aftershave sit in your hands for about 30 seconds, this will allow the alcohol to evaporate along with much of the bite. What is left is a rich, fresh mellow aroma that has quite the staying power. Throughout my day I occasionally get a wonderful whiff of the rum scent that is neither overpowering nor harsh, my face feels conditioned and happyThe bottom line: There are a lot of A/S options to choose from; some of them not only pack quite a punch but also can put a dent on your wallet. Captain’s Choice Bay Rum is a product that has tremendous bang for the buck because it not only works well in soothing my freshly shaven face, but it also has a refreshing scent with holding power. In fact it has replaced my daily cologne. So the captain has created a quality personal product that can serve double duty, and at $17.95 for a 4oz bottle, that is just fine for my pocketbook!

I love Captain's Choice Bay Rum after shave! It has just the right combination of ingredients to give it that authentic spicy bay rum scent without being overpowering like other after shaves I've tried. It's refreshing, masculine, and has just the right amount of that after shave "burn" you're looking for when initially applied. It feels soothing and it smells wonderful. It's truly a great product that you can buy with confidence!

This is the best bay rum aftershave I have tried to date, and I have tried many. If you like the smell of bay rum, this is a must-own. The scent harkens back to the day of traditional barbershops where men were men, and barbers knew how to give a great haircut and straight edge shave. Most bay rum aftershaves rely too heavily on clove for scent. Captain's Choice is much more multidimensional in that it appropriately blends vanilla, citrus and cinnamon to bay leaves for a balanced spicy finish. My other bottles of bay rum aftershave are just not getting any love now that I have Captain's Choice!

This is the perfect Bay Rum, the Captain got it right! It has a blend of spice, alcohol, and moisterizers that leave you wanting more. The scent isn't overpowering, but is long lasting. It has a spicy, manly smell, it won't be confused as a femine scent! I love the tauntness in my face after an application, and the soothing of any burn or irritation. It has quickly replaced my more expensive aftershaves and colognes, for me as well as for SWMBO. If you try this, you will be calling the Captain for another round!

CC Bay Rum has become my favorite AS, hands down. I currently use GFT lime skin food, Proraso liquid alcohol free balm, and CC Bay Rum in rotation. CCBR is used 5 days/week, while the others get one day a piece. I find CCBR to be superior to the other two in all respects. The other outstanding quality to CCBR compared to the other AS products I use is the "staying power". I am able to enjoy the scent of CCBR for 2-3 hours following its application, a quality I cannot enjoy with the other AS products I use. Since CCBR has alcohol, there is a "burn" which I like, but following its application, there is a gentle warmth (not a burn) conveyed to the face which is very pleasing. The scent is simply wonderful. In addition, I really enjoy the fact I am purchasing a product made in the US from a B&B forum member. In short, if you like bay rum, I can't imagine you being dissatisfied with CCBR in any way. It is simply an outstanding product

I love bay rum, and I use Ogalala on a regular basis. This Bay Rum, however, is more balanced and not cloying. I put the others in the closet and added Captain's to my rotation.

Three TOP things I love about this product: ONE---Something is different, very unique, about this formula. I have somewhat sensitive skin and have had problems with Bay Rums in the past. I don't know what the Captain is putting in this aftershave, but I've had zero problems on the irritation scale. TWO---After corresponding with the Captain, I know that I'm doing business with an overall "good" guy. That's important to me. THREE---Without number three...I'm not ordering this product. My wife noticed my aftershave was different on day one. When I say "noticed", I mean it in a good way...a very, very good way (if you know what I mean). Let's face it guys, if our significant others don't like it...what's the point? For that reason alone, I'm a big fan of Captain's Choice!

I've never been a bay rum fan but this has made me one. The right amount of burn but very soothing to my face makes this an effective splash. The incredible scent make it a pleasure to use and I found myself enjoying it the more I sniffed!!This had some staying power too and would double easily as a masculine cologne.

First let me say, I do not like Bay Rum, until now. I don't know much about what all goes in to Bay Rum but all that I have tried had a clove smell to them (that I do not like) and left my face feeling kind of overloaded, if that's a good description.I was extremely surprised and pleased with Captain's Bay Rum. That smell I do not like, is not there and it left my face feeling fresh. This will be a great after shave for those cold winter mornings.Guess what my sons are getting for their birthdays.YES I would recommend this product no matter what it says on the top row.

I got a sample yesterday and couldn't wait to try it. It turns out that I picked a good night for it, too. I made the mistake of using my glycerin Col. Conk without the added Bigelow cream. OUCH! After some alum and witch hazel, I broke out the Captain. Just a little bit of it gave great coverage, best bay rum scent I've ever smelled, and was more soothing than any liquid AS I've tried. The final word: MOST EXCELLENT!!!!! This will be on my "do not run out of" list from now on!!!

This is my favorite aftershave product in the bay rum scent. I generally switch off between this and an aftershave balm to keep my face from getting to dry. This product contains witch hazel and helps me to avoid any razor bumps or burn. It is not made with clove but does have a similar resemblance. The smell is fantastic. It lasts the entire morning on my face where I will catch whiffs of it here and there throughout the day. It does have alcohol in it so you know when you put it on your face but I like that feeling in the morning. I will purchase no other bay rum, it is truly a great product.

I associate bay rum with the barbershop my dad took me to when I was young. I have very fond recollections of the scent, and have searched long and hard for just the right bay rum. Most have been disappointing, as they seem to have an over-dependence on cloves. So I was a little skeptical of ordering Captain's Choice at first, but after reading glowing review after glowing review I decided I'd give it a whirl. WOW!!! This is the bay rum I'd been searching for! The scent is absolutely spot on perfect, with no cloying clove smell. Just the right amount of glycerine, so it doesn't leave my face dry like some splashes can. Yes, there is alcohol burn like any bay rum has but it is not uncomfortable and dissipates quickly, leaving behind a very nice feel. The terrific scent lasts a long time, too. I still catch light whiffs several hours after I shave. The wife loves it as well - this is the only bay rum that's gotten her enthusiastic approval. (So of course, it's the only one left in my den.) Price is a good bit higher than most of the other bay rums on the market, but it's a good deal less expensive than other aftershaves of comparable quality. Captain's Choice is a favorite (in my top three), and the only bay rum I'll buy from here on. An artisan product, handmade in small batches. Very highly recommended!
