Description:
So I got a sample of this stuff from Charles at QED USA and decided to give it a test run...

Ready to rock and roll.... now what brush to use?

Finger swipe away....

Soaked Polo 12 ready to go to work...

T - 10.....9.....

10 Swirls...

25 Swirls....

More Cream added - 10 more swirls....

Verdict?

I am quite underwhelmed. I have since used up my sample - and thus far for the life of me - I cannot get a decent shave with this stuff... I get more nicks with this shaving cream than ANY other cream/razor/soap/etc I have ever used. This cream is very thin, doesn't seem to lather all that impressive, doesn't smell all to wonderful, and is very underwhelming.

At least to me - this product seems to be wholly worthless. Maybe I got a bad sample... maybe I don't know how to use it... but as far as I am concerned, from my experience with this shaving cream.... I'd rather use Gillette Foamy. Blech!

So I made the out-of-the-way trip to Nordstrom last night because I had to expand my shaving experience... I'm still waiting for my Kent to arrive; my Moss Scuttle hasn't come yet; and I'm too much of a pussy to switch blades to anything other than my Merkur Classic DE HD.

So this morning I shaved with my Vulfix 2233, a Merkur HD with Merkur platinum blades, and T&H pre-shave oil and the ultimate comfort shaving cream.

First, the OIL: It's incredibly light weight, which is a very nice change from the very heavy Art of Shaving and Anthony oils. I can't yet say how it compares to the Nancy Boy pre-shave oil, but this is nice for someone with oily skin. It does not leave your face feeling heavy... Also, I would point out that it has a wonderful tangerine scent that's fresh and citrusy without being too fruity.

CREAM: The cream, although it says is unscented, has a very light, pleasant scent- I can't place it right now, but my recollection is that it's similar to the scent in the Oil. I used a tiny bit of the stuff on the tip of my Vulfix and it immediately lathered up. This is a VERY LIGHT but firm lather. What I mean to say is that it did not fall or drip at all, but it was not heavy or creamy like, say, Nancy Boy or Proraso, both of which remain pretty creamy while on my face. The texture of the face-lather is evident even before you get the lather going because the cream, in the jar, is fluid... I imagine that it has a lot of air in it, but NOT at the expense of slickness... This stuff is SMOOTH!

I gave the packaging a lower rating because it comes in a cheapy plastic jar in a box- the jar is nothing special, and much lighter in weight and heft than the Nancy Boy or Art of Shaving plastic jars. (I didn't buy the tube because the jar is only four bucks more for much more cream.)

For those of you wondering, I finished with the Nancy Boy after-shave gel, of which I am a tremendous fan.

So, as I continue to shave with the T&H I'll post updates if I have any... Otherwise, I hope this was helpful.

I think you may have gotten a bad sample..

This cream is far and away better than any I have tried in terms of ease of lathering and quality of shave. If I weren't incredibly fond of the Proraso effect, I would stick with T&H UC cream as my sole shaving cream. I've stopped bothering with my Taylor and C&E Creams since I've found this stuff.

It's certainly the ultimate in my book.

Shavemac 220 vs Truffit & Hill Ultimate Comfort!

Just a dab of cream.

A few swirls, I just use the bowl to work the cream into the brush. I do my real lathering on my face (or in this case, hand). I just find that more enjoyable.

Ready for action!

After a few swipes

Brush Squeeze (My hand is not usually the color of a beet)

I too was quite underwhelmed with my sample of T&H's "Ultimate" (which I received at Nordstroms; the salesperson was kind enough to crack a tub for me and give me a sample container of it to try). It just didn't give me the same quality of shave that other T&H creams give me.

I also love this shaving cream. I love the delicate scent of it. Like the above poster said, this could be my one and only cream, if I didn't have like 10 other "if I had only one" creams. I always get a great shave out of it and I also like the very similar NB cream. Very moisturizing and lathers nicely. Joel - maybe you just had a "bad face day" some days no matter what prep and cream I use, I get a lousy shave. Could be the weather, moon cycles, whatever.

I really like it. Personally, I thought it lathered better than most of the other creams I have tried. I would have preferred a stronger scent. After the shave, I thought it left my face feeling very moisturized. As a person who started using Taylor products, it's a bit difficult to get used to spending so much more on shaving cream, though.

I have many of T&H's shave creams and find all but two to be exceptional. This happens to be one of those. Poorest shave I have ever gotten with a T&H product, bar none. The subtle scent was really something too, reminiscent of nothing and neither good nor pleasant, but very synthetic. I actually changed blades, razors, and brushes three times over the period of a week because I could not believe the absolutely miserable shave. I fear Barbasol in a can would have been a better shave. Perhaps there is a future for this product as a personal lubricant?

I wasn't impressed. I have a bad sense of smell, and thus wasn't thrilled with it. I may get some to mix EO with, and I do like that it has no parabens. Over all though, quite under whelming. Gave the price a 10, as T&H sent me a tub for free after an allergic reation to another product. The 10 is a nod to great customer service which makes the high price worthwhile.

One of my favorites. This stuff lathers like a mad dog. Seriously, I am very very surprised by the negative reviews. I find this and Cremo to be my most protective products. It was one of my two first creams as a beginner, and definitely the easiest lathering thing I have (including Taylor Avocado, other T&H, etc.).

As for the smell, eh. I find it mild, but pleasant and refreshing. Keep in mind in considering it, that in all fairness, it is an unscented product. The scent is merely a mild touch of lavendar oil that is there for its skin benefits.

Also, this leaves my skin feeling very conditioned. More so than anything else I have, except Honeybee soap.

Great stuff.

Man...someone has to have gotten a bad sample of this stuff. I love it! This has little to no scent, yes - but they say in their promo line that it purposely has no

scent as it's hypoallergenic. It's the best cream I've ever used, although that isn't a huge number. It whips up a nice lather; a dollop smaller than an almond gives me enough lather for at least three shaves. I really like this stuff.

I agree, I got amazing amounts of lather with this stuff.. looked nothing like the pictures above. And I was using a Burma brush. Go figure. Even though I used the whole sample pack, I could have easily gotten another shave out of it, there was that much lather. Great protection and slickness. I even liked the scent. I would need to use more than once however to give ratings. I'm really puzzled by the polarized opinions on this product. My shave was amazing and my face feels like a million bucks. Maybe since I don't have 405509 gazillion products on my shelf, my expectations are somewhat lower, but I don't see how someone could get a bad shave with the lather I had this morning. But, as with everything around here, YMMV.

I love my T&H Ultimate Comfort. It's a step into a brave new Canadian world of cream, sure, but it's a good one. Take it as a cousin of the old favourites, and not a replacement - as others have said, it is very much in the Nancy Boy vein, to appeal to "the yoof".

It does a great job, I've found. I'm a bowl latherer, and it creates tons of serious meringue-like peaks that do the trick, and leave my face feeling great.

It's subtle, being lavender oil-scented, and it's all the more appealing for it. I'll be buying more once I exhaust my current pot.

Toodlepip,

Hobbes

Well, this is m first post so be nice. i have been wet shaving for 6 moths now and this was the first cream i bought.

Price- I paid 35 dollars (canadian) for this at a local store. The price is a bit high, but I have been using this cream every other day and i still have a lot ledt. So price wise, its worth it.

quality- everything about this cream screams quality. This cream has the consistancy that every cream should have and the ingridents are pure and simple which makes it easy on the skin.

scent- The scent of this cream is amazing. Even though its "unscented" it has a hint of lavender which smells both mild in the tub and on your face.

latherability- when i first used this cream, i had no idea what a lather should look like. However, after using several other creams, this one is ok. It takes a couple minutes to get a decent lather but that doesn't bother me because whats an extra minute shaving going to do to me? although the lather is not the best, you can easily get three to four passes once you put in the extra minute lathering.

efficacy- I have never had both a nick or razor burn with this cream (even when i first used a DE). for some reason, the blade just glides like its on butter.

moisturizing Properties- My face is naturally moisturized (i know weird) and this stuff makes my face feel softer than ever. I had a huge rash on my neck from using a mach 3 and after using this cream for two weeks, it was gone.

packaging- the box just tells you that its exspenive and the royal warrent logo makes it look more luxurious. The tub, however, is simple but what more could i ask for.

Overall, this cream is a must have, The above users who say that its not that great must and i mean MUST have got a bad batch.

First I'd like to note that this review is based on the very attractive sample set mailed to me by T&H. They sent me samples of all their colognes and this UC shave. I love T&H products, but just kind of bypassed this one in the past because I like using the "scented" ones so much. A mistake on my part. I will definitely be picking up this stuff soon! There was preshave oil, cream and ASB attached to the nice sample kit printed card. Note to other companies: this is how you make samples. The PSO was excellent and the cream exploded quite literally into huge amounts of lather. Easily enough product in the samples for 2 or even 3 shaves. I liked the light, yet fragrant scent with a noticeable lavender aroma. The shave was one of the finest I've had. Very slick and protective. I generally don't notice big moisturizing properties in most creams, but thought this one was good. I'm not sure how anyone could not like this cream unless cost and the subtle scent are turn offs. I thoroughly enjoyed all the UC samples. The ASB was very thick and worked very well as a compliment to the shave. Highly recommended!

My review is based on a sample sent me by T&H - they are great in terms of communication and getting samples out to you. But the sample came in a little plastic squeeze thingie, so I can't comment on packaging.

Up front let me say that this stuff works very well indeed. But so do many other creams for a fraction of the price. However I was able to get a BBS smooth shave from it without irritation using my SS with a fresh Derby in it this morning.

The scent is almost non-existent. So if you are looking for an olfactory experience, don't look here. What scent it does have disappears within seconds of lathering.

The lather is great. Very thick and lubricating. I had no problems whomping up for several passes with just a little cream.

As far as moisturizing, right now I'm feeling a little tight and dry. Trumpers seems to do a better job with that that this stuff.

So the upshot is that this is a perfectly competent shave cream.

This was a let down for me. Wanted to see if I could find a good cream for sensitive skin after thinking Proraso was starting to irritate me (I was wrong about that; I wasn't prepping correctly). I picked a travel tube of this up to try it out. Hard to get a good cream/water ratio. Lots of skipping. However, the scent is light and pleasant and the packaging is first rate. But, unfortunately, those points don't improve the quality of the shave. Won't be buying again.
