I love Tabac. It always lathers up great, and provides for a great shave. The scent has a nice 1970s vibe. It doesn't matter whether I use a high end badger or a bottom of the barrel boar, this stuff always excels. 3 thumbs up.

After reading several threads and favorable reviews of her soaps, I decided to order several pucks for myself, beginning with the cedar and sage soap. As a AoS and ToBS user primarily, the $10 price of mystic water soaps(mws) seemed very affordable. I will begin with the fragrance of this soap which was extremely pleasing. It has a distinctive woodsy, masculine scent, tempered by the clary sage and spice notes, which give the soap a very crisp, refreshing scent I enjoy in warm and cool weather alike. In some ways, the spice notes remind me of OS aftershave. The scent is not at all overpowering, but will stick with you in a way such as not to let you forget you have shaved with a scented soap. As an aid to shaving, the soap performed well, providing ample cushion and slickness, while leaving my face feeling tight and refreshed.
The only complaint I had was with the soaps lather, which required some learning curve as I had to adjust my technique used with other hard soaps to achieve desired effects. This soap does not like a lot of water, but once you figure out the ratios, you will be rewarded with an ample, creamy lather on your brush and in your bowl. Despite my success in producing a rich lather, I found it had a tendency to evaporate/ be absorbed once it was on my face. Despite this, it performed well with my razor, providing more than enough protection and slickness from my de razor.
I would highly recommend mw soaps to anyone, and have made it a regular part of my rotation. I would also encourage first time users to be patient and take a few practice attempts with this soap until you perfect your lathering technique as it required some modification from my normal routine. Stick with it and you will be happily rewarded with an affordable, fragrant, and effective soap you will be happy to purchase again and again. Next I look forward to trying her adirondack jack fragrance, review to come in time.

The ToBS sandalwood soap was one of the first shave soaps I ever purchased, having only recently converting to a traditional wet shaver. Overall I have been very pleased. I found it to lather better than my AoS or mystic water hard soaps, and the scent is very pleasing. I was accustomed to the AoS sandalwood scent, which was very warm, woody, and masculine. The ToBs sandalwood is a bit flowery/soapy smelling compared to the AoS interpretation, but no less pleasant. The only complaint I have is the soap seems to dry my face out unless I re wet it after every pass before re lathering. I also purchased their sandalwood cream, and prefer this for its ease of lather and fragrance longevity over the hard soap.

I've tried out a lot of bay rums. A LOT of them. And I just came around again and tried this one for the first time in a while and holey moley...
Ok first off, Cat'O'Nine is a great name for this product, being a fun take on the alcohol bite that this stuff provides after your shave. And today I had a nick-free shave and this stuff still provided a really pleasant kick in the face.
But even better than the alcohol kick is the scent. Any true fan of bay rum will immediately love this deep, romantic, intoxicating take on bay rum. It's a bay rum with an intense depth to it. What makes it really special to me is that I can't really pick apart the different elements of the scent. Nothing really stands out but the resulting combination is just exquisite. It really is. I can sense the citrus and I can sense a little bit of a floral note, but truly, the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts.
And even better than the scent is the ingredients list. The Captain has truly lived up to the K.I.S.S. credo, keeping it relatively simple. While Cat'O'Nine may be an instrument of torture, this Cat'O'Nine wants to love your face with witch hazel and glycerin and an utter lack of unpronounceable chemical compounds.
Thank you Captain. An excellent choice if I may say so myself.

These blades for me are a paradox. They dragged across my face and skipped etc. but gave a good smooth shave, No irritation or burn and no cuts; go figure. I'll give them a few more days and update this review after I had a few more shaves with them. They definitely didn't like three days of my copper wire growth which although short it's tough. I prefer Wilkinsons to these in the sharpness dept. and I dislike Wilkinsons. So far for me the Boots/Tesco's/Asda store branded blades knock these for six....... so far.......to be continued.

I found this (my one & only 'go-to'), blade to be 'awesome', moderately sharp (almost as sharp as a KAI, but much smoother & cheaper), forgiving and perfect with no pulling or tugging, very, very smooth, (albeit a 'weeper' now & then..but zero 'nicks'), no irritation and/or razor burn that 99.9% of the time results in CCS's in 3 passes (WTG, CTG & ATG), with 2 great shaves per blade (I shave every-other day with Saturdays as my shaving 'day off'),...and are very compatible with both of my Merkur 23C & 38C razors.
Overall, with Sharpness, Quaility, Longevity, Smoothness and Packaging being looked at, I rate this blade a even nine (9), out of ten (10) points.

I first tried this from the VDH starter set. It was awesome from day one the brush was so so but we are only talking about the soap here. That said I see a lot of people putting it up against Williams which is fine but this is not in the same class as Williams by any means !!! This soap should hold it's own against pucks 300x plus it's cost think mama bears or Ogallala or even DR Harris or TOBS and Prosaro. the lather is easy to form it is slick , moisturizing stable and everything you would want from a puck of soap period for a fraction of the cost. Do not I repeat do not let the cost or the fact you can get it at rite aid or wally world detract you from the quality of this soap. the only draw back is two fold it is only a 2.5 oz. puck and it goes a bit fast secondly you really should melt it in the microwave for10 seconds then put it in a tin or bowl as trying to load your brush in a 2.5 oz. plastic container is a pain so buy 2 pucks melt them in the wave pour into a 5 oz. tin and you have one of the best soaps on the market period bar none. I can't recommend this soap enough. Oh and yes it does smell a small bit like grey flannel cologne but I like grey flannel so for me that is a plus if you don't like that smell maybe reconsider the purchase but for a buck fitty you can't go wrong.

I'm completely hooked on this product!
Quality 10 - I usually don't care what my AS comes in - I'm after what's inside after all! But this is a notably high quality brown glass apothecary container. From what I can see, the liquid inside looks a bit thicker than water and cloudy.
Razor Burn 10 - Although the alcohol in C-o'9 definitely highlights the places where my technique is lacking, I find that my skin is smooth and calm after the burn cycle with no evidence of having put steel to skin.
Cooling Sensation 1 - this is quite the opposite - there is a distinct alcohol tingle immediately on application, which settles quickly, followed by an intense warming sensation that increases in heat for a few minutes. It fades fairly quickly, leaving my face feeling it's BBS best!
Scent 9 - This is my current favorite Bay Rum. As others have mentioned, it's more of a "dark" scent - no clove or citrus that I can detect. Instead there is a lot of bay, a hint of cinnamon and an almost "dirty in a good way" black strap molasses scent; I have a hard time pinning it down - but SWMBO likes it enough to stay close to me while it fades. Which is my only real complaint - it fades in less than an hour on me, though I catch an occasional whiff until lunch.
Efficacy 10 - This stuff WORKS! My skin feels toned and supple throughout the day.
Moisturizing 5 - I gave this a five, figuring that is the neutral middle - not drying like a straight alcohol rub, but not super moisturizing like a balm. - It's neutral (which I like)
No Alcohol Burn 3 - There is a distinct tingle on application. It's not as bad as others - I don't run away from it when I've been too aggressive with my Slim.
Overall 10 - I'm completely hooked on this product! Between the scent, the controlled burning sensation, and the way it leaves my face feeling after shaving - this will be in rotation for the long term (how much for a gallon?)

Price - At the price I got it for it was definitely worth a punt.
Scent - I'm not all that sold on the scent. To me it seems a little too perfumey and cloying. I prefer to smell something a bit fresher and lighter on my face for my morning shave.
Latherability - I had no problems lathering this one up.
Efficacy - This cream seemed a little too light and not slippery or oily enough for my liking. It didn't cling as strongly to my face as other products so provided a less smooth experience.
Moisturising Properties - My skin felt soft after using it with no hint of drying.
Packaging - I really liked the packaging. About as nice as a plastic bowl could get ergonomically speaking. It has a nice rounded bottom that rests well in the hand and large ridges on the edge of the lid to provide a good grip even with wet hands.
