Description: I recently purchased and tried Scottish Fine Soaps' Classic Male Grooming Shave Soap. The soap refill is 100 g with a cost of $10-$15 depending where you purchase it from. The ingredients are listed as: Fragrance, A blend of Fresh Woody and Spicy Notes, with Bergamot, Mandarin, infused with Lavender, Honeysuckle, Clove and Nutmeg, on a background of Sandalwood, Patchouli, Oakmoss, and Firbalsam combine to create this sensual sophisticated masculine fragrance. I found the shaving soap to be slick, cushioning, and moisturing. However, I expected much more of a scent. For those of you that like unscented soaps or very faint scents in your shaving soap, this soap is for you. If you are like me and appreciate stronger and pleasing scents, you may want to look at other alternatives.

Description: Aramais shave soap has a woodsy smell, which reminds me of a campfire. A campfire that warms lumberjacks that punch mountain goats in the face. It is very manly. The soap is a little hard, and takes a little bit of time to get lathered up well. The lather is nice and rich, but with a slight (and honestly somewhat unpleasant) hue of yellow. The lather is nice and lubricious. The downside of the lather (at least in my experience) is that it does not last long. I found it beneficial to only lather half of my face at a time. The cost is fairly reasonable. I paid $14 for two oz pucks at Macy's (I have seen it for $28 on Amazon). The smell is great, and the lather is very slippery and protective. I have gotten great shaves with this soap, and use it regularly.

Most handsoaps would outperform it. Even as a handsoap it would probably fail; any lather disappears within 30 seconds. It lathers and foams like crazy but the lather is HIGHLY unstable (collapses), thin and airy and there's way to many bubbles. It did have good reports some time ago and I bought it based and that. I SUSPECT A REFORMULATION. A lot of the very positive reviews are a bit older, most of the newer reviews are very negative. Something must have been going on. Somewhere along the line things went horribly, horribly wrong. AVOID AT ALL COSTS ! Ingredients: Sodium stearate, Pottasium stearate, Aqua, Pottasium cocoate, Sodium palmate, Sodium palm kernelate, Parfum, Glycerin, Butyrospermum parkii, Sodium chloride, Sodium hydroxide, Palm acid, Palm kernel acid, Helianthus annuus seed oil, Rosmarinus officinalis leaf extract, Tetrasodium EDTA, CI 77891, Benzyl salicylate, Citral, Hydroxycitronellal, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclonehexene carboxaldehyde, Limonene, Linalcol.

Description: What is this stuff? A German natural handmade (artisan) cold-processed shave soap developed in coordination with a popular German wet-shaving group. I was reluctant to try the soap because it includes Olive Oil, which usually means the shave soap will not lather worth a darn. This soap lathers thick creamy SILKY stable lather. Really beautiful stuff. It provides an exceptionally close shave with no irritation. Calani says �Ingredients such as mango butter and lanolin make this shaving soap so special.� I completely agree. For comparison, I think the lather is as good or better than MWF. The lather is thicker than MWF (even the triple worked special variety) and does not cut as fast. This soap is better (lather more protective cushion) than any veggie based soap I can think of. It�s better than many tallow soaps also. I never thought that I would say that. The shave quality is as good as Martin de Candre. The scent. It's dark fruit like with a bit of spice. It�s not foodie. It�s not too sweet or cloying. Not flowery and the more I use it the more I like it. It�s not subtle though and frankly that is one of the attractions to Calani soaps. This is a superb above the pack soap with a great unique scent. At this time it is cheaper to order from Calani direct. Recommended. Description: Corrynne�s Shaving Soap is a Western Australian product containing French clays (...) with silica particles that allegedly produce a comfortable, gliding shave that is great for sensitive skins. The product comes in a mildly attractive amber plastic case and with ingredients that supposedly offer healing properties. I used it for the first time today, and upon opening the container was a little disturbed by the blobby, firmish mush of beige that greeted me, along with a strange citrussy, muddy funk...but I persisted, happily enough. As we say here in Australia, I gave it a go. I lathered up with a boar/badger combo brush and a lot of soapiness was produced very quickly, promisingly...but during the first pass, the lather faded into an insipid, airy and greyish disappointment, requiring multiple swirls in the pot just to get back a reasonable lather that lasted long enough to get through the whole shave. I might try a few drops of glycerine next time, just to see if I can get something a little richer and longer lasting. I can�t say I thought it an outstanding product, French clays notwithstanding. I can get a better and more interesting, satisfying lather with a cheap shaving stick. This might be a good soap for a quickie, second mild shave before going out schmoozing; this is not a workhorse soap, and is a bit more new-agey than barber-shoppy. Good for those with a light fuzz and a quick whip around the face. The scent is better when the water is applied, but I find it a bit odd; maybe it will grow on me, but I rather doubt it. Others may well disagree. As to healing properties, well, who knows? It didn�t leave me feeling moisturised as the pack claims it would, either. Things improved with the application of a nice balm (Speick for preference). Curious to know what others think. I am not particularly impressed. Shame, though, as I wanted to love it and want to support local products. Let�s hope the manufacturer doesn�t have sensitive skin.

Description: Price: 9 I only got a sample of this soap, but loads so easily I don't see how it won't last a long time. I can easily see my sample lasting a week of shaves. I bet a full puck will last many months. Quality: 8-9 It was very slick and didn't leave my face feeling dry. I only marked it down a bit because I didn't feel really moisturized like I do after MWF, but this was close. This is probably the best glycerin soap I've tried. Scent: 10 I used the Frankincense today and it's simply heavenly. I also have a sample of the orange and patchouli soaps and they both smell fantastic, as well. I bet they're all great. Lather: 9 This was great. It was really slick and cushioning. Efficacy: 10 I think this is where this soap really shines. I have been using creams exclusively for quite some time, so it's been a while since I have used a hard soap. I swirled the brush on the soap for about 15 seconds and I had so much lather, it was running down the brush onto my hands. I washed enough lather down the drain for another three pass shave. Moisturizing: 8-9 This isn't the most moisturizing soap, but it's by far not the least. I might dare to say that it's at the front of the pack. I think it's the greatest glycerin soap I've ever tried, shortly followed by Mama Bear's soap. I'm in love with this stuff. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Description: I was given a bar of the Handmade Soap Co's Shaving Soap for Him as a way of helping mellow out the skin sensitivity on my neck. While I was waiting for it to arrive, I wasn't sure what to expect - I wasn't sure if it would be a soft soap or maybe a cream or what. When I received the bar, the first ting that struck me was the scent. Before I could even take it out of the envelope, I knew that I had found the best scent that I have encountered. I tried to describe it to a friend, and realized that I can't. My only description was, "it smells like....good." Once I got over the scent, I took a look at the bar. Instead of the expected soft soap or cream, it was a bar. I had never used a bar before - my hard soaps are from MB, and ccome in a bowl. This threw me off a little, but it wasn't the end of the world, as I have a bowl that I can store my soaps in. Looking at it, the color wasn't the most enticing. However, as I am continually reminded by the missus, natural and good doesn't mean enticing. On to the shave. I got some soap on my boar brush and built a nice bowl lather. It wasn't the foamiest or creamiest lather I have seen, but it wasn't bad and turned out to be enough for four good passes with a little left over for buffing. The shave itself was quite nice, but not perfect. I've had better cushion and smoother glide - something that I later found I could compensate for by using this soap as a component in an uberlather. Nevertheless, the shave was satisfactory. My FB and Dorco combo yielded minimal burn and my neck had few weepers - similar to what I have achieved with other soaps. After my shave, however, the soap really excelled. I wrapped up my shave, warm rinsed and then cold rinsed. And when I cold rinsed, I noticed something different. My face felt "moister" than it had with any other shaving soap/cream/gel/etc product that I had ever used. Absolutely superb. Is this the best soap on the market? Probably not. Is it the best I've tried? Maybe - at the very least it is near the top.

Description: Price: 8.5/10 Quality: 9/10 Scent: 10/10 Lather: 9/10 Efficacy: 9/10 Moisturizing: 8/10 I picked up a puck of this soap at the Groom Room in Ames, IA. It's a new offering. The folks at the Groom Room offer 3 scents in both cream and soap. I preferred the scent of d'Artagnan over the other two. And I like soap over cream. So, here's my very first review! Price: A 3.5oz puck of their soap cost about $20.00. It's a good price, better than other premium soaps. Quality: It is a premium soap, I compare it to C&E or AOS. Scent: The official scent profile is sweet citrus, Neroli (Bitter Orange) and 'grassy' notes. I thought it was similar to Bergamot & Lemon Grass. Lather: I did my normal 1 minute load with a 22mm Finest Badger brush. Using about a teaspoon of water, it lathered up a storm! There was enough lather for a 3 pass shave + more. Efficacy: Nice & slick. As good as the other premium soaps I've used. Moisturizing: It was good. I could be better, but it's much better than other soaps I've used. I think right now you can buy it at their store in Ames. I hope it's okay to post their website: TheGroom-Room.com
