Does anybody make a brush with a Rubberset-400-type handle and scrubby knot? I'm looking for backbone on par with a bundle of rebar.

I'd recommend an original 400 with a Shavemac D01 two-band badger knot. It'll take a month or two to break in.
Other than that, I know BSB made one, and PAA makes a crown king switchback homage brush, but I don't know anything about the knots they use.

Thanks. I was considering building one. This might be the way that I go.
You can also consider a Shavemac with a flat top knot. You want backbone & scrub, the flat top delivers in spades!
Google "Shavemac knot configurator" and set the loft as deep as you want. (+/- 2mm).

Good call. I've been playing around with their configurators today. Some of their handles are so gorgeous it would be difficult not to get a full brush from them.
I know there's the phoenix artisan accoutrements switchback 400 and alpha shaving works sells the T-400. I'm not sure if alpha still sells them without a knot though so you can just put your own in.
Or you can buy extra ferrules to put your own knot in so you can switch them out if you don't like the original knot, that's what I did for the alpha t-400, never tried the paa one.
