So I got a bottle of the Ogallala aftershave in the mail yesterday. It has a super strange plastic, almost rancid smell to it. But once it dries down a little, it smells wonderful. I made sure to shake well first. Has anyone had this experience?

It's been years since I had any Ogallala BR, but I don't remember any strangeness in the scent. Are they still in the plastic bottles? Maybe your bottle sat in the heat somewhere and picked up some scent from the container?

Maybe. I thought it may just be my bottle. I bought it from an Amazon seller.
I suggest you pour it into a glass bottle. Might be all it needs!

I still have some Ogallala aftershaves in thick dark-blue glass bottles that must be 10 years old. All mine were bought from Ogallala's original web site and are still good. I don't know where it's coming from, or bottled, now. Long into retirement I don't shave as frequently and trying to use up what I have in stock. I mostly use Captain's Choice AS, but use Ogallala when I need a clove fix. Clove reminds me of childhood days in the 50s & 60s at my grandma's.
