Broke a brush - what did I do wrong?

Have you tried contacting the maker? he may be willing to take care of it and you could ship it back for the same or less money than it would take to go find the right tools and supplies.

This is probably the best answer of all.
 
Here is the aftermath if anyone is interested. My dad has a bunch of tools in his garage, so when I went home this Christmas we went to work!

I used a mortising machine to "grind" out all the old epoxy.

Then I mixed together some JB Weld (overkill I know - but I didn't want to goof around with an epoxy that would weaken at luke warm water)
